We have for sale a Vintage Antique Victorian Cast Iron Floor Wall Heat Register Vent Grate Scroll Design 1894. I have two of these listed at this time. They are matching. From your wall or floor it will stick out 1-1/4 inches. It is all original. It is black in color with gold accents on the front grill(original paint) There is some additional white paint on this register which I believe would come off without too much trouble. The Louvre portion of the register is dated and stamped 1894. The actual opening you would need in your wall or floor would be 9 X 12 inches. The register works great. Hi and welcome to my auction. For your bidding consideration is an antique/ vintage used Victorian era cast iron round louvered register. Grate or vent. The grate measures approximately 9-3/8” across the top and 7-5/8” across the louvered bottom. This has no maker's mark on it except for the number 8 cast on various parts. Based upon this and some calculations, I figure this would fit in a hole between 8" and 8-1/8" in diameter. The ornate top has the remnants of a black painted surface. Condition is very good, there are no cracks, repairs or noticed damage. Picture number 12 shows a close-up of what I consider to be a manufacturing process line- it appears to be a solid, horizontal seam BUT NOTHING MORE. The louvers work fine, moving back-and-forth with just the use of my pinkie finger. This could use some additional surface ... morepreparation before applying a fresh coat of paint. Antique Victorian CAST IRON Heat LOUVER Register GRATE Vent-16x11-Ornate
This came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& it was being used with another flat, same size grate in the room below. That other flat grate is being sold separately. The patterns of the 2 don't match exactly but from 1 room to another, it isn't noticeable. This offering is for the one w/the louvers. Which was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. The size of the louver box is 13.5 x 8.5. So the hole in the floor would need to be a little bigger ... morethan that to allow ease of clearance to set it in. The flat piece without the louvers is also 16 x 11. The bottom of the louvered one is marked'M M& F Milwaukee Wis' This louvered one weighs 12.5 pounds. The shipping cost does include insurance. Local buyers may pick up. Great restoration pieces! This wonderful antique heat duct register includes the cover plate and a louver assembly underneath. This piece has a pretty pattern on the cast iron cover and the louvers are in good working order controlled by thumb-wheel-type mechanism. The top of the grille measures approx. 13 3/4 inches long by 9 13/16 inches wide. From the front to back it measures about 2 inches. The grille needs a floor opening of about 11 1/4 inches X 7 1/4 inches. The unit has some peeling paint. Also as seen in the photos. If you look at the top left side of the unit, in one spot towards the top, an area of the pattern is diminished. I am not sure if this is due to slight chipping of the metal or just chipping away of the paint. With some ... morenew paint and cleaning this vent would be a beautiful addition to your home.

Beautiful Ornate Cast Iron wall grate. NO cracks NO chips. Louvers were fine. In need of cleaning paint or clear lacquer. I will leave that to the buyer. Mounting screws do NOT come with this. Common screws so easily found at your local hardware store. These are complete normally you do not find the outer mounting piece with these. Dimensions 17 inches tall x 13.5 inches wide on the outer mounting casting. This is# 1 of 2 I have listed.
