This auction is for a vintage three piece. Round, cast iron, floor register. Embossed on the outside rim: Manufactured by The Adams Company in Dubuque, Iowa on August 31, 1897. The center plate is removal to accommodate a stove pipe. The outside diameter measures about 15 3/4" with the bottom flange fitting into the opening of a pipe 13 1/4" in diameter. It is in good condition without any cracks or breaks. But obviously been painted brown. Needs a cleaning. And it is ready for painting. This is a two piece grate with the smaller section sliding back and forth to open and close the louver vents. The photos show it in the open and closed position. This type grate was used to allow the stovepipe to extend from one floor to another. The stationary outer rim and the movable inner rim which opens and closes, see pictures showing the open and closed positions. The outer rim has the following lettering cast into the surface" Made of Ferro Steel, Design Patented" and the inner rim is cast with ornate vines and leaf pattern. The inner ring has a finger latch to rotate the inner ring to the open or closed position. It is free of any damage, has some light rust and paint missing, ready for easy restoration. The outer ring diameter is 15.75" and the inner ring inside opening is 6 1/8" Wisconsin residents add 5.5% state and county tax.

1870s-1910 Cast Iron Victorian Floor&Ceiling Grate Vent&Louver-2 PC Fancy-16x11
These came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& were being used together even though the pattern doesn't match exactly. The one w/the louvers was in an opening in the floor of an upstairs bedroom while the flat one, without the louvers, was covering an opening on the ceiling in the room directly below& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. This came out of an 1870s. 2 story house& it was being used with another grate with louvers in the room above. That other louver grate is being sold separately. The patterns of the 2 don't match exactly but from 1 room to another, it isn't noticeable. This offering is for the flat one. Which was mounted over an opening on the ceiling in a downstairs room while the louvered one, was in an opening on the floor in the bedroom directly above& they were lined up to make a unit. Before central heating became the standard. These were in all old homes, usually located next to a chimney flue to let the heat from a free standing stove rise to the upstairs. The outside dimensions are 16 inches long x 11 inches wide. On the back. There is a little ridge where it would sit into an opening, shown in 2nd to last photo. Rare 1800's Cast Iron Round. Louvered, Floor/Ceiling, Heat Register Round Louvered Open/Shut Compartment Fits an 8 inch Diameter Hole. Fancy Filigreed Floor Grate is 9 1/2 inches in Diameter I'm sure this No. 8 register is the big brother of the No. 5 register that i'm selling in another current auction. But this No. 8 is not marked with the patent date. This register is marked with the number 8 on each of the 3 louvers. On the louver housing, and on the bottom of the floor grate. The 3 louvered system is made for an 8 inch hole, and can be opened or shut by sliding the grooved control on the floor grate. The floor grate is 9 1/2 inches in diameter. The louver vents open and close easily, and the screws in the floor grate come out for cleaning the louver housing. This register has not been repainted and I only wiped it with some ... moreoil to clean out the cob webs. This register has some of the original black paint, and a couple of drips of very dark red paint. Shown in photos. Where the paint has worn off there is some surface rust. This is normal, cast iron will rust where it is not painted. A coat of paint will stop it. One was on the ceiling downstairs, and the other was on the floor upstairs. This not only allowed heat from the stove up to the bedrooms, but also made a gap between the hot flue pipe and the hole in the ceiling. The bottom ceiling grate has 2 closed clips, and the grate for the upstairs floor has open clips. Hanging wire was run through the clips on the downstairs ceiling grate, and slipped onto the open clips on the upstairs grates. The 8" flue pipe from the stove, was than run through the center of the bottom and top grates. These grates have surface rust and need painted. Beautiful old floor wall or ceiling register grate vent. With a design patent date on the back of 1891. There is a company name of Adams Company Dubuque Iowa. It measures approx 15.5 inches diameter and all pieces weigh almost 9 pounds. Patent Date Aug 31 1897. The piece looks to be victorian style, with two pieces that fit in the middle; the first is a decorative geometric design, the other a round and flat circular piece. They both move freely. It was painted front and back with black paint at one time. Vintage Round Ornate Victorian Cast Iron Ceiling/ Floor Grate Register& Frame We are offering this Adams Company Dubuque. IA Cast Iron Heat Grate. Great Architectural Piece. Pat. Date Aug 31st. 1897. This piece measures approx. 15.75" in diameter. It is in excellent condition with 3 interlocking original pieces. It opens and closes properly when turned. Original paint in a maroon color. Paint loss here and there from normal use; however, this paint loss is minor with no large areas of paint loss. A very pretty vintage grate!

This could be for Floor, Ceiling, or Wall. This has a nice ornate design with pluses and scrolls. The only issue is the crack on both sides of the left screw hole and then on top of the plus right next to it and then under the next scroll all within 3 1/2" of the side. Please see photos) Measurements: This measures on the front approx. 16" x 12" The back(size of hole it would fit) is 14" x 10" It is approx. 3/4" deep. Condition: This is in very good condition. This appears that the front has been painted green. The back has some rust. There are 3 small cracks on one of the sides by the screw hole.
