The ends or arms of the bench have a little bit of wiggle to them. But the bench is sturdy. One side of the bench appears to have been sat upon more than the other and so is a bit more"squished" than the other side. In my opinion. The bench is at least turn of the 20th century, if not older. I have not removed the dust cover from the underside to see the construction. Note that I have rotated the bench 180 degrees for photos. So both sides and both ends are shown.

But i am not sure, could be the ... moreearly 1900s?There are no markings on it that i can see. The Hall Tree is in excellent condition, is very solid, and has a nice aged Patina look. It is about 82-3/4" tall, 24 to 26" wide(at different levels) and 15" deep. The Beveled Mirror is about 17 1/4" wide and 35" high and in very good condition for its age. There are 6 Coat, Cap Hooks, the two on top are Butterfly Hooks( unusual& rare) see picture 5, I have never seen these before or after we got this one) I don't know if they were on the Hall Tree from day one or if someone added them later, they are old and they compliment the attractive decorative carvings on top, plus they do match the cutout pattern above the seat perfectly.see picture 3) The Bench Seat has storage space under the lid. Mahogany window seat hall bench upholstered in Scalamandre cut silk velvet
Handsome mahogany window seat or hall bench upholstered in Scalamandre's Pomfret( 26692-012) velvet. The velvet alone sells for $229.50 per yard- see my screen shot from Scalamandre's website. The bench and upholstery are in good condition. The ends or arms of the bench have a little bit of wiggle to them. But the bench is sturdy. One side of the bench appears to have been sat upon more than the other and so is a bit more"squished" than the other side. In my opinion. The bench is at least turn of the 20th century, if not older. I have not removed the dust cover from the underside to see the construction. Note that I have rotated the bench 180 degrees for photos. So both sides and both ends are shown.

Chestnut Carved Hall Seat Chair Bench Figural Carved Henry II Breton French 19c Incredible hand carved antique French Henry II figural bench! This bench is magnificent to say the least. The carvings are spectacular and command attention yet subtle that they are not overdone for your decor. The wood is chestnut and is fine in color I've taken pictures inside and out to give you the true color as best I can. The size is also remarkable in that it can fit in most any entry way or bedroom you name it this is the size most want as it is isn't overpowering. 48" wide by 18" depth by 32" to the handrail and 36" to the top of the crown on the figural carved Henry II King of France from 1547-1559. He had many ties to Brittany thus the fine figural carved motif on this bench. You will be amazed at how difficult it has become ... moreto find good antiques such as these in this type of condition. The bench seems to be all original as far as I can tell. the crown on Henry II has some wear as this is where one would place their hands, to be expected to see normal wear in the correct places such as this. Four faublous intricately carved Griffin panels two on each side and two in the back. This bench would be great with a needlepoint panel on the seat, I have one listed this week if you, take a look at our other auctions. The part I was most impressed with is the top when you stand near this bench the carving are easy to see and you don't have to bend to see them like many where they are usually only on the front or back or lower portion. Antique oak bench/seat is 51" long. 18" deep, and 28" high. The seat is 17 3/4" high. It has a lift up seat for storage. The grain in the oak is great. It has the original finish. The arms are scrolled with spindles. There are some marks and scuffs due to age. It is very strong and sturdy. Inside the front panel is stenciled B.H. Co. No. 3 93. This is a super carved quartered quarter sawn oak lift seat hall bench. Heavy oak stock used throughout the piece. Large crest rail with heavily swirling leaf carved back panel. Has large turned arms over turned spindled supports with arched supports having leaf scroll carved fronts; has a hinged lift up seat over a fleur de lis carving and stands on extra large carved claw feet. In excellent refinished condition, has excellent quartersawn grain throughout. One of the best we have had in several years. Circa 1860, that has been constructed in the style of the Tudor period(circa 1500– 1530) The settle is constructed of solid oak panelled timbers. The back consists of four recessed floral and leaf carved panels. Flanking the panels and to the whole of the outer frame. The settle is enriched with punch work. Above these recessed back panels is a row of carved floral demi-lunes. Two shaped down swept arms are secured in place by bobbin turned spindles to the seat frame. Below the hinged seat lid. There is another row of carved demi-lunes followed by four floral carved lozenge recessed panels. Interspersed between the panels are profuse leaf carvings. There is a working lid in the centre seat. The inside of the box settle is ideal for storing shoes and wellies in the hallway. The settle comes with a viscose flat weave cotton mix swab cushion.
