Primitive Large Settle Bench This item is ready to use as is or spruce up to your liking! There is some wear at all edges from everyday use. There is one repair underneath seat that you can view in the closeup photo. There are also some cracks and chips that are typical for age. Nothing structural. The wood is a beautiful golden color English Pine. From the back it gives the appearance of being a very large barrel as it is made in a similar manner. This bench was purchased in the Massachusetts area about 50 years ago from an antique shop. The owner was told that it was an Irish Settle made in Ireland early 1800's. The overall piece is contoured and sweeps to one side rather than being symmetrical in design. I wonder if there would have been a opposite bench to totally enclose the fireplace area in the room. I used it in Rhode Island. Then in Florida, then in Phoenix, then stored it for 7 years with some of the potential"keepers" in my life. Not knowing where I'd be living or what size my permanent home was going to be, I knew some of the furniture, pottery, and artwork would be more than I could absorb. Deep sighs. I really had hoped this chest would fit in somewhere. We are over 65 and living small- on 5 acres- but small. Some things are appearing in this ebay store. This box is the perfect chest to act as a bench at the foot of the bed, under a window, on a long side of a serious farm table, or as a coffee table. Oh my gosh, such a great chest with its chip ... morecarved border on every surface except the bottom and back. The back is finished to the point where it can be exposed to view, although it lacks the chip carved ornamentation. If being used as a bench, facing a table, and exposed to the room at the back, I would turn it around and face the room, making it also easier to open without having to pull it out or turn it. This is a super place for seasonal TV watching blankets and table linens. It's a great place to hide the sterling. Who would think to look? Behind the chest, in the first picture, you can see the Welsh dresser that I absolutely am keeping, built a specific spot in the house sized to fit. It occurred to me that this chest could slide under the Welsh dresser and serve to hold table linens, etc. but it is just too perfectly sized. If I put stuff in it, the way I want to, it won't slide out and if I add rollers, it will be too tall. It just has to go. Though built to emulate the Jacobean look, I'd say it is more of the Arts and Crafts movement, so really perfect for today's home, easy to blend with Metro-Industrial furniture and Moderne and Arts& Crafts and leather. This beautiful organ or piano bench was made in England. Most likely in the late 1800s, possibly very early 1900s. It is made of solid wood, which I believe to be mahogany. It has a beautiful rich medium tone, reddish brown in color. The wood has a beautiful grain which I have tried to capture in the photographs. Underneath the seat is a cast iron mechanism that allows the seat to be raised or lowered using the knobs on the side. The mechanism was made and patented by the Marsden company and is in perfect working order. The wood on the underside of the stool and part of the mechanism is stamped"Marsden's Patent LEEDS 542. See photos) The bench features splayed legs. With lovely turned designs. It is well made and very sturdy, suitable for daily use as a piano bench or vanity seat. The cushioned seat has been replaced and recovered ... morein a gold and beige fabric, but could easily be switched out to match your decor. It is in good condition, no stains. This is one of a pair of pews that I purchased in England many years ago. I only have room for one now. And would love to sell this beautiful piece of carpentry. A classic tall antique country stool Round topped with cross stretcher construction and turned legs. The stool is solid, without wobble, and stands square on the floor It is in original condition. Antique 19th Century English Victorian CH Hare Brass Swivel Piano Stool
Here is. What I believe to be, a very rare CH Hare patented brass three legged piano stool. This stool is in perfect working condition and the height adjusts as the seat is turned. It is marked on both sides of the seat frame with CH Hare Patent, and is also marked'Registered' with what appears to be a registration or patent number on the brass base. Stool shows normal signs of aging as happens with brass over time, but no significant scratches, dents, or dings in the brass stool base. I have come across several of these stools while searching online, and most have four legs. This one is a three legged stool. I am quite certain this would not be the original upholstery. The upholstery on the top is a velour/brushed velvet, and differs from the upholstery underneath which could be the original.
