This is an antique highback swivel piano stool/chair. It was made in the late 1800's by Tonk- Chicago& New York. This chair is in very good condition for it's age. Very sturdy. it has the glass ball claw feet. It's a very nice piece of furniture to have for your collection. Max Tonk, born in Berlin in 1851, went with his family to Chicago in 1857. He learned to carve and worked in his uncle's piano and organ factory carving embellishments of the instruments. In 1873 he opened his own carving shop supplying the Chicago cabinet industry with fancy ornaments for cabinets and caskets. In the 1880s Tonk Manufacturing began to make swivel seat piano stools for the growing musical industry. This is an amazing piano stool from the Victorian Era. A time period characterized by incredible ornamentation and attention to detail. It is a whopping 26" tall, 14.5" side-to-side and 14.5" front-to-back. This piano stool has claw feet, an intricate bottom support system of pillars and legs, and a swivel seat with a raised 10" backing for comfort. The seat swivels perfectly with no issues. The gap beneath the seat and the rest of the piano stool(where the swivel mechanism is) shows some glue work to secure the seat to the rest of the stool, and in no way interferes with the swivel mechanism. It is only visible when one turns the stool on its side and looks inside the gap; otherwise, it cannot be noticed. The metal eagle claws show nice line detailing. Clear glass ball feet show minor chips but in very good condition& the bottom of the glass feet have a flat edge. Beautiful. Unusual antique piano stool in mahogany featuring three superbly turned posts, three carved lion paw feet and swivel seat. All original, including the finish. The stool seat measures 13" in diameter, and the spread of the feet is the same. At its unextended, the seat height is 20" At its extended height, while maintaining a secure balance, it's 25" much above that would likely put stress on the swivel mechanism. Original 1880's Victorian swivel adjustable piano bench/stool. Stool retains what appears to be the original needlepoint padded upholstery seat. The swivel seat goes up and down easily on the central screw ~ has four ornate carved tripod legs with turned finials underneath and ornamentation on all the sides. Felt protectors on bottom legs. Believe the wood to be walnut. But unsure. Metal plate reads; TONK CHICAGO& NEW YORK" Bench/Stool compressed measures 17-1/2 inches high, Swivels up to 22-1/2 inches high ~ Seat measures 16-inches x 12-inches x 5-inches. Antique CAST IRON Victorian STEAMPUNK Piano Swivel Stool 1800's VINTAGE
This really is an amazing old antique stool. I am guessing mid 1800's. It is rather heavy. Solid wood, possibly Mahogany or? Cast iron legs with detailed design. Adjusting seat base, but is not currently working(see pics) Threads in the base see to be reamed out a little, but could be fixed. There is a water mark where I put my coffee cup by accident(see pics) but could be restained and fixed easily. There is a small crack in the seat, but I have been using this chair in my shop for the last year and no problems. Would be great in your home/ office/shop. Please email if you need measurements. Antique A. MERRIAM Co. Swivel Piano Stool "Claw & Ball" SO ACTON MASS to Restore
I found this in a barn. It had a broken in half seat on it. Not 2 halves. Just one. Not in nice condition, but someone that knows what they are doing, might like this. Or someone that likes the steampunk look. I thought about putting an old metal tractor seat on it. I will include flat head screws i took out of seat. One claw comes off of wood, one leg is a little wobbly, and someone who did not know what they were doing tried to glue with the foaming glue. Seat adjusts up and down. The glass balls have bubbles in glass,seams in glass, some chips(do not affect stability) Metal claws seem rusty. Do not know what wood is.

Antique Victorian Swivel Adjustable Piano Stool with Needlepoint Seat. Marked underneath seat Geo. W. Archer. Rochester, NY, PAT May 6, 1873. Beautiful needlepoint seat with matching fringe trim. Ebony Wooden stem with three iron scroll legs with ornate bird/falcon's head at top which gives it a chinoiserie feel. Black painted. From bottom of wood where I believe the lathe was, the black looks original, but may have been touched up over the years. Seat has a unique shape with needlepoint seat cover. From underneath there are other tack holes-may not be original, not sure. Original seat cover may be underneath. There is a visible crack with glued repairs on bottom of wooden seat. Seems strong and sturdy to me. Swivel mechanism for height adjustment works fine. A very typical Victorian period piano stool. Paypal only. Up for Sale: 1 Antique Piano Stool Swivel Brass Claw Feet w/ Glass by A Merr. Stool appears to be in it's original condition/finish. Looks like several coats of varnish have been applied throughout the years. Cracking present in this coat of varnish. All of the hardwood shows no cracks, splits, breaks or repairs and is in very good condition with no large gouges, nicks or chips. All of the joints are extremely tight and show little signs of pulling away. There are two repairs/new welds that have been made to the cast iron underside seat support. The longer of the two repair welds has a crack in it. Stool had no problem holding my weight of 250 lbs, but you may want to have it repaired. Seat adjusts from 19 to 23"s. Seat measures 14"s. Seat swivels and spins in both directions with minimal effort and is fluid and smooth, zero ... moresigns of corrosion on the spindle. Again, to my eye, this item appears to be in it's original condition, and does not look like it has been refinished. There are several layers of old varnish/urethane that shows layering and cracking. To me, it adds to the piece. I have given the stool a light cleaning and have oiled with some Ole English. Plenty of history and character in this piece. This piano stool is gorgeous! It is made of a dark wood. Possibly mahogany. Swivels very smoothly. Lowest height is 19" and adjusts up to 24" tall. Solid and beautiful. At the end of all 4 turned wood legs there are beautiful brass feet with each holding a clear glass or crystal orb ball. Balls have a lot of air bubbles in them. The seat is 14 inches wide abd does show some wear from usage and there is a small crack in the wood(see photo) Also a piece of veneer is missing from under seat. If you have any questions. I believe this to be maple wood due to the smooth wood grain although I'm not positive. Beautiful craftsmanship and really solid. Stool measures 16 to 22 inches high and 13 inches square at the base of the legs. In great vintage condition. I believe this was made between 1870-1890 by Merrian. Antique 19th Century English Victorian CH Hare Brass Swivel Piano Stool
Here is. What I believe to be, a very rare CH Hare patented brass three legged piano stool. This stool is in perfect working condition and the height adjusts as the seat is turned. It is marked on both sides of the seat frame with CH Hare Patent, and is also marked'Registered' with what appears to be a registration or patent number on the brass base. Stool shows normal signs of aging as happens with brass over time, but no significant scratches, dents, or dings in the brass stool base. I have come across several of these stools while searching online, and most have four legs. This one is a three legged stool. I am quite certain this would not be the original upholstery. The upholstery on the top is a velour/brushed velvet, and differs from the upholstery underneath which could be the original.
