The cast iron bracket on the bottom of the seat reads"TONK CHICAGO" It has been painted black during it's lifetime. We are selling it exactly as it was found. Structurally it is solid. Beautiful. Elegant Antique High-back Piano/Organ Stool Up for auction is my grandparents' antique ball-eagle-claw-foot high back Windsor Victorian piano stool. This stunning& elegant Victorian-era piano stool has 4 shapely turned legs with gorgeous ribbing finished with the magnificent ball eagle claw feet. Beautifully turned spindle stretchers secure the legs to the centerpiece pedestal. Original finish. Still in great condition. A true work of art and quality craftsmanship. Dating from about 1870 to 1900. A swivel adjustable stool with original ball and claw feet was made to use with a piano or organ. I do not know the exact hardwood, my best guess is it is solid mahogany. The finish is in excellent condition meaning there are no chips or scuffs* I believe it is American-made. It looks like Charles Parker, however I cannot find ... moremanufacturer's name on it so it could be custom made by an independent craftsman. Sorry, I just do not know since I am not an expert on antiques such as this. Please note: There are a couple of cracks that are visible in the finish(upper back of chair/right and left side) But chair is completely intact and secure. I do not know the origin of these imperfections- not sure if this is a hairline along a seam, or something to do with the way chair was made, or if the chair fell over at one time. Chair is still sturdy and although these hairlines look prominent in the pictures, you really have to look pretty hard at it to see them. Also please see pic of pedestal base of chair seat. There is a gap in the seam that does not affect sturdiness of chair, but cosmetically you may want to glue/repair. For your consideration is a nice maple wood piano stool. The stool is marked"TONK CHICAGO NEW YORK" on the cast iron threaded seat support. The stool is very solid and adjust in height from 19 1/2" 25" and has a 14 1/2" diameter seat. The glass balls on the feet are free of anh cracks and chips. The stool has had the seat reglued and overall refinished at some point in its past and surfaces have a smooth sealed finish. There is a color variation on the base of the stool. Almost looks like shadowing in the finish, not sure what it is but it does look nice. I took lots of pictures of different sides so you can see. The truth is that I don't know the exact age of this piano stool. And we're only estimating it is 1800's. It has a swivel top that is upholstered. If that upholstery is original or not, well I can't say for sure. I can note that the hardware holding the stool top to the base looks shiny and new, so at one point it was disassembled. One screw is missing altogether. These are easily replaced. The stool is structurally sound, no loose parts. It has metal feet and is a unique piece. I can only imagine the hours spent at the lathe to create it. It stands about 16 inches tall with a 12 inch seat.

This has been relaquered or varnished and repaired sometime in it's life. The repair is to the top board under the seat that the legs attach to. It looks like it was cracked and glued there and then some extra braces put on it to increase the strength. It feels sound and solid and easily held my 300 lbs and you should have no problems with it. They are on the underside so do not show in use. I saw no other damage and everything is tight and sound. Seat covering looks original with some wear-no tears-and feels like the old material made of horsehair and camel hair that they used in the old lap robe/blankets. For sale 1870's Piano Bench that raises and lowers by the Knobs on the ends of the stool by way of the metal mechanics under the seat. This was very avant-garde for the period. Adjustable piano bench were round and turned on the wood corkscrew dowel attached to the seat. The wood which I believe to be walnut is in. EXCELLENT dark stained condition and has never been painted. The seat was recovered but I believe was just put over the original seat as I can still see the strapping underneath. Up for auction is beautiful antique Victorian adjustable piano/ organ stool. This stool dates from the late 1800's and was made by the HD Bentley company. The company was founded in 1879 in Freeport. IL, and began offering over 60 styles of stools from their"new" factory on E. Van Buren Street in Chicago in May of 1893. Signed with iron nameplate: H.D. Bentley Freeport Chicago The wooden stool has nice turned legs. Wonderful feet with glass marble balls and a unique dragon/ head claw shape. The glass is visible trough the two eyes and at the base. The piece is 19" high(lowest position) and adjusts to 24" high. And measures 14" at the base and the seat is about 14 1/4" wide. See enlarged photos for condition. 17 1/2" fully down-23 1/2" fully up to where the threads come undone so about 22" of safe usable height. Seat is 14 1/2" diameter and dished in the middle for comfort. Signed the New York Piano Stool Manufacturing Company. Sliver chip to the underside of the seat which hurts nothing. Leg spread is 14" across the closest feet. 19 1/2" across the farthest. Glass/crystal balls are loaded with air bubbles and in good shape. Very ornate claw feet with toes and claws and scales to look like bird feet. Threads in the iron mounting mechanism look good and are not worn out. I see a split at the very bottom of the pedestal below where the 4 leg cross supports insert and another small split/chip where a leg inserts into the bottom of the seat support. Some one already glued these up at some point in time and it feels sound ... moreand solid with all the joints feeling tight. There is a groove about 1/2" below the end of the center support. I've often seen a piece of copper wire wrapped around at that spot to make sure the crack never opens up again. Finish to the oak has really darkened over the years. I am going to remove the 4 screws that hold the iron to the bottom of the seat to hold the box size down for shipping. Original Finish Antique c1900 Holtzman & Sons Oak Fluted legs Piano Organ Stool
I have up for sale a really nice vintage original circa late 1890s to early 1900s Holtzman& Sons- Columbus. Ohio Oak Piano Stool. The spins on a screw,making the seats height either raise or lower depending on the direction you spin it. This particular style is much harder to find than the more common glass ball and claw foot examples. It personally is more appealing to my tastes. Maybe yours as well. This is just a great looking piece- all original. And in mighty fine shape. There is some normal minor light wear but overall its in great shape. It is solid and sturdy, not made for a mountain of a man but it will hold up for most folks. The seat is approx 14-1/2" in diameter and with the seat at its lowest point,it stands approx 19-1/4" tall. The screw spins smoothly and easily. the approximate weight is 15 lbs as it sits. The ... morefinish is Excellent. Nice warm patina, some wear on the seat but nothing serious. As noted in the condition report above, one half round/half ball is missing from the seats beaded edge, two other half balls have minor imperfections- one appears to have been glued back on and there is some remnants of the glue residue. The feet have some minor nicking from use, once again nothing serious. I will package with great care and ship fully insured. I really do not see any significant flaws on it at all. It works just fine. I would guess that at some point it has been refinished because it just looks so nice. It has what appears to be glass balls clutched by metal eagle claws that are painted gold at the bottoms of its 4 legs. Please excuse the dust you see in the photo. This classic victorian style piano stool is very pretty. And would make a great restoration project. The bottom frame is composed of cast iron. It is beautifully engraved and features three gorgeous twisted legs that add volumes to the overall style. The seat portion appears to be made of pine. It looks as if it was just the base that a padded cushion or covering was glued to. You can see some of the left over residue from this in the pictures. The cast iron portion is in great shape, with no dents, dings or bends whatsoever. The part that adjust spins up and down quite smoothly. Made by the Briggs Patent Portable Ottoman Portfolio Piano Stool- Patented April 28th. 1868 and Aug 31st, 1869. Briggs' Manufactory of Portable. Patent Piano Stools- This business was commended in town, in a small way, by Joshua Briggs, in 1862. He made, at old jobs, one dozen of piano-stools in 1863, accupying the basement of Robert Day's shop, near'Wilder's Manufactory, North Peterborough. In the spring of 1864 he rented the second story and attic of'Brennan's Building, in the village, and continued them until the whole building was too limited for his vastly increased business, when he purchased the saw-mill of Mark Wilder, and erected for his manufactory, in the summer of 1873, his present large and commodius buildings. The progress of his business was gradual, from making a dozen piano-stools by himself, as in ... more1862, 63' and then with hiring one or two hands a part of the time, to his present condition. He now employs, when the business is good, from twenty-five to thirty hands in the shop, and at the same time hires all his iron-work, castings, screws, etc. done outside. Mr Briggs has secured five several patents on his piano-stools; two on the screw style, two on the ottoman style, one on the portable back. The Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics' Association, Boston, in September, 1869, awarded to him a diploma and honorable mention of his piano-stools. In September, 1871, at the New England Fair at Lowell, Mass, a silver medal was awarded him for his portable piano-stools. Overall good condition. Ornate cast iron legs. Wooden painted frame shows some minor wear and paint loss. Hinges appear to have been replaced. Antique 1880's Eastlake Style Tonk Chicago New York Adjustable Piano Organ Stool. Maroon& mauve strip plush fabric with copper colored daisy upholstery tacks on rectangle wood top. Line grooves going around the side. 4 ornate carved legs with round appliques on all the sides. Metal swivel base plate reads: TONK CHICAGO& NEW YORK A small paper sticker under the seat showing a picture of the stool with the words TONK TRADE MARK WARRANTED. Spins good up to 22 1/2" high. Antique Organ Piano Stool Wood Needs refinshing & upholstery
This is an antique organ or piano stool.It is 14" high from base to top. will raise several inches. top is 12.5" X 16.25" just needs a piece of foam and some upholstery fabric I got it at auction several years ago and was refinishing chairs for my store. it was in bad shape. I took off the very worn fabric on top and my Father made the pieces for the corners and duplicated one finial.he did this in his late 80's and has since passed at 91. I closed the store and this is the state it has been in in my basement for 8 years. I have a great stool for my piano so I do not need this one. looks like it had black lacquer on it before it was painted white.why do people do this to old furniture? the turn crank is about 10" long. I have the original screws that hold the top to bottom. so hopefully someone will restore this and ... moremake it beautiful.

Antique Adjustable Piano/Organ Stool w Crystal Ball/Claw Bird Feet Merriam
Age is late 1800's to early 1900's. 19 1/2" fully down-24" fully up to where the threads come undone so about 23" of safe usable height. Seat is 14 1/2" diameter and dished in the middle for comfort. Signed A. Merriam& Co So. Acton Mass. Leg spread is 13 1/2" across the closest feet. 18 1/2" across the farthest. Glass/crystal balls are loaded with air bubbles and in good shape. Very ornate claw feet with toes and claws and scales to look like bird feet. Threads in the iron mounting mechanism look good and are not worn out and it adjusts nicely. Wood is probably walnut but might be oak as heavy as it is. There are some shallow drying cracks that don't go anywhere. Wood is rather a dull color-not a shiny finish so the finish is probably pretty much gone but is even in color. You might want to oil ... moreit up or something but overall it is quite usable the way it is. Joints are slightly loose but not enough to pop anything apart and do any gluing. I am going to remove the 4 screws that hold the iron to the bottom of the seat to hold the box size down for shipping. I like to put a dab of wood glue on the threads when i put these old items back together.
