There is one repair underneath seat that you can view in the closeup photo. There are also some cracks and chips that are typical for age. Nothing structural. The wood is a beautiful golden color English Pine. From the back it gives the appearance of being a very large barrel as it is made in a similar manner. This bench was purchased in the Massachusetts area about 50 years ago from an antique shop. The owner was told that it was an Irish Settle made in Ireland early 1800's. This is a fabulous antique Johan Carl pine bench that I've enjoyed for the past 30 years. Now I'm moving cross country and everything must go(see my other antique and collectibles auctions) By day this bench would be used for seating. At night. They would take off the seat slab and pull out the bottom which transformed into a bed by stuffing it with hay. As a bench, it measures 78" wide x 20" deep x 31" tall. These piece has been repaired. A 19th century Windsor spindle back deep seat pine bench measuring approximately 32" tall. 58.75" wide, and about 22.25" deep. It is sturdy and structurally sound, though there is wear and tear to the surface- it has also been stripped and refinished. It looks like someone put some wood filler in some of the knot holes, or it could be residue from old paint(we're not certain) The seat itself is one board. Primitive pine plantation bench. Circa 1800s. Southern origins. Measures 63" from armrest to armrest. Seat is 14.5" wide and 19" from floor to seat. Total of 35.5" tall to top of backrest. Hand planed and hand hewn, pegged with dowels, no nails used that I can see. Has 4 turned legs with 16 spindles on back rest and sides; side spindles are carved in center and hand rests have 4 incised lines. Plank back. Very sturdy piece given its age, but the left front arm rest is a bit wobbly. All in all a beautiful period piece. Asking $735.
