Circa 1900 Gout Stool with embroider foot. Very old and very pretty Look!
You are bidding on an old gout stool. My dad says they use to roll gout foot on it to sooth the pain from Gout. I dont know how much of that I beleive but here it is. By the look of the carpentry and the embroider on it I believe it is very old and probably is alot older than I listed by the look of it. It has dark tacts on it that are hand pounded or made. They are not smooth but show that they are hand made. It was my mothers and she had it for a long long time. She loved antiques and I remember it when I was a kid at the foot of her bed. I am selling it for my dad now that my mother is gone. I hope you like it. The embroider is a phesant I think. 11 1/2" tall and 21" wide. It is actually very pretty. This is a unique old stool that would be the perfect project for a reupholstering. It is solid and heavy weighing in at over 7.5 lbs. I'm not sure what type of wood it is) It is sturdy and solid. Rocking Gout Foot Stool Wood Antique Needs Love
This rocking gout foot stool appears to quite old. We think it was probably home or shop-made because some of the pieces don’t meet fully. Leaving minor gaps between the pieces. It measures about 18 ¼” high. About 19 ½”long, and about 14” wide at the ends. It is covered in a pinkish red floral brocade fabric with braid trim at the edges. A darker. Plain cotton fabric is visible at the edges beneath the red brocade. The upholstery nails are visible. It rocks smoothly but it’s a little loose side-to-side. One of the lower side boards appears to have been partly cut a little too short. As shown in the last photo. A very thin wood biscuit ought to fill the space. The wood frame was originally stained dark but is worn. Particularly at the edges. The upholstery fabric is quite worn and has several very worn spots and some of the braid ... moretrim is missing. The top needlepoint cover has a beautiful roses flowers pattern that is fastened all the way around with the original brass buttons. Measures 12" x 14" and 7" high. I believe the frame is walnut, possibly mahogany- a classic hard wood in the original finish with great patina. The top cloth covering has no tears or stains, some normal age related soiling only. A classic Victorian Eastlake Art Nouveau 1890 era foot stool. A descendant of the common stool. The footstool has evolved throughout history. RARE Antique VICTORIAN Era GOUT Footstool Foot Stool Rest 1800's Vintage Wooden
WOODENDECOR10 Presents A Victorian Era GOUT Footstool This item ships FREE FedEx Ground in the Continental U.S. This is an authentic Victorian Era GOUT footstool from the mid 1800's to the beginning of the 1900's. Its rare design was purposed for gentlemen with means as a way to relieve the pain of gout by lifting the foot at the ankle while not touching the foot. It is made of solid wood(I believe it to be walnut) With two handles on either end for easy positioning so as not to touch the foot, four carved wooden legs, and a straw padded tapestry or rug covered body. Here, this rust toned rug is edged with ornate trim and round tacks. I can not say whether it is the original rug or not though it certainly coincides with the time period. There is relatively minor wear on this piece for its age with some varnish wear, what looks like ... morelathe holes in the ends of the handles, some wear on the bottoms of the legs, and a superficial crack in the base that is not deep nor does it compromise the structure or stability of the footstool. Its as sturdy as ready to use today as it was over a hundred years ago. The rug is still in good shape, all tacks are present, and trim is in great condition. The footstool is a great historical piece for the collector with an interesting medical background. Similar pieces have sold for up to $250.00 in the past few months. A gout stool was made to use with a rocking chair- when you rocked. The gout stool also rocked! It is in great condition, but needs to be reupholstered, which is very easy to do yourself! The rockers are 15 1/4: long, and it is 12" wide. The part where your legs rest is 8 3/8" deep, and the foot section is 4 3/4" deep.

This type of footstool is commonly called a"gout" stool- they were created in Victorian times for people with gout to rest their entire leg. Or possible this is a wonderful low carriage stool would have been used to get ones feet out of the draught and cold during a journey by horse-drawn carriage. This stool is made of Mahogany wood. Or has been stained dark. Old nails. Original velvet type fabric is on the stool. The pattern is of old tea roses. The most wear shows in the center, as it would be so, for resting that foot! Judiciously made from English oak. This delightful piece bears charm and practicality. The stool has a warmth and wonderful patina whilst the turned, splayed legs united by generous stretchers offer stability and strength. Fresh from a country California estate. This unique rocking gout stool/ bench is in very good condition. The pale greenish blue tapestry is quite nice and the wood appears to be a dark stained Oak. I'm not sure how old this is but it certainly serves it's purpose. If you need a foot stool or just like the looks of this one.this is for you.
