The cast iron bracket on the bottom of the seat reads"TONK CHICAGO" It has been painted black during it's lifetime. We are selling it exactly as it was found. Structurally it is solid. This is a Vintage New York TONK Wooden Piano/Organ Stool/Bench/Seat Chicago. In very good condition for its age. Does have visual ware. But is very sturdy! Has a unique gorgeous look! Antique Vintage TONK Mfg Piano Organ Stool Bench Seat Adjustable 1800s Victorian
Up for auction is this ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE SOLID OAK PIANO ADJUSTABLE STOOL! It is in very good condition for its age. It is from the 1800's after all. It is adjustable height. It has the unpolished brass claw feet. The glass balls have NO cracks and r in very good condition with bubbles. On the bottom of the glass feet are pads so they didn't get scratched or cracked. I will leave it up to the buyer to keep them on or remove them. On the underside it says TONK NEW YORK CHICAGO. There is what looks like a scratch on the main middle leg but is the way it came from the factory which is a flaw in the wood. Please look at the photos I've showed it in one of the pictures. There is a small chip off the bracket on the underside of the seat which I've showed in the photo. IT STANDS 20" tall at the lowest setting. and ... more14.5" across the seat. This is an ornate antique Victorian adjustable piano/ organ/ harp stool. The stool is in great condition and appears to retain its original mahogany finish. It is made of solid wood that is stained mahogany. It has metal claw and clear glass ball feet. The glass balls are not cracked and the legs and base are ornately turned. The seat is covered with padding and red velvet. The cloth is not ripped or torn. But has some light stains. There is some light wear and scratches from use on the wood, and the legs are a little loose, but could easily be re-glued. There is a white cloth wrapped around the adjustment screw in the seat to keep it from squeaking as much when it turns. The round piece of wood under the seat has been re-glued as seen in the photos. For sale 1870's Piano Bench that raises and lowers by the Knobs on the ends of the stool by way of the metal mechanics under the seat. This was very avant-garde for the period. Adjustable piano bench were round and turned on the wood corkscrew dowel attached to the seat. The wood which I believe to be walnut is in. EXCELLENT dark stained condition and has never been painted. The seat was recovered but I believe was just put over the original seat as I can still see the strapping underneath. I gave my antique piano to a friend and she wanted to use the bench she already had. While researching the bench I found out to my surprise what a REALLY great piece I had! Powered by

In 1873, he opened his own carving shop supplying Chicago w/fancy ornaments for cabinets& caskets. In the 1880s, Tonk Mfg began to make swivel seat piano stools for the growing musical industry. Made by the Briggs Patent Portable Ottoman Portfolio Piano Stool- Patented April 28th. 1868 and Aug 31st, 1869. Briggs' Manufactory of Portable. Patent Piano Stools- This business was commended in town, in a small way, by Joshua Briggs, in 1862. He made, at old jobs, one dozen of piano-stools in 1863, accupying the basement of Robert Day's shop, near'Wilder's Manufactory, North Peterborough. In the spring of 1864 he rented the second story and attic of'Brennan's Building, in the village, and continued them until the whole building was too limited for his vastly increased business, when he purchased the saw-mill of Mark Wilder, and erected for his manufactory, in the summer of 1873, his present large and commodius buildings. The progress of his business was gradual, from making a dozen piano-stools by himself, as in ... more1862, 63' and then with hiring one or two hands a part of the time, to his present condition. He now employs, when the business is good, from twenty-five to thirty hands in the shop, and at the same time hires all his iron-work, castings, screws, etc. done outside. Mr Briggs has secured five several patents on his piano-stools; two on the screw style, two on the ottoman style, one on the portable back. The Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics' Association, Boston, in September, 1869, awarded to him a diploma and honorable mention of his piano-stools. In September, 1871, at the New England Fair at Lowell, Mass, a silver medal was awarded him for his portable piano-stools. Overall good condition. Ornate cast iron legs. Wooden painted frame shows some minor wear and paint loss. Hinges appear to have been replaced. This Chas Parker Meriden CT Piano Stool is inn overall good condition. Legs are sturdy. Glass is in tight on the claw feet. Markings"The Chas Parker Co Meriden CT" on bottom of the spinning seat in tact and clearly visable. There are some signs that the spindles have been glued into their respective holes which does not surprise anyone given the age of this piece. Height is about 24 inches at it's tallest and about 19 inches when seat is wound to it's lowest. I tried to take pictures from all angles and to show this piece in it's entirety. Underneath the seat is a cast iron mechanism that allows the seat to be raised or lowered using the knobs on the side. The mechanism was made and patented by the Marsden company and is in perfect working order. The wood on the underside of the stool and part of the mechanism is stamped"Marsden's Patent LEEDS 542. See photos) The bench features splayed legs. With lovely turned designs. It is well made and very sturdy, suitable for daily use as a piano bench or vanity seat. Exceptionally rare adjustable height victorian era Eastlake style organ or piano stool or bench There is a knob at one end to affect the height adjustment and it connects to a wooden screw. Which actuates a mechanism to raise and lower the bench. Legs pivot in the center and a mechanism keeps them centered always. Included is a small roll of fabric that I was going to use to recover. ANTIQUE 1800's VICTORIAN EASTLAKE ORGAN PIANO STOOL WALNUT ORIGINAL BENCH. here is a nice beautiful antique Victorian Eastlake era organ stool from an Ohio Valley region estate. It has a maple wood with what I believe to be the original velvet red cover. which has 1 very little worn spot on the fabric corner. Measures 20" tall with a 16" x 12" swivel seat, and is in solid condition.
