American Brilliant Cut Glass info: This type of glass was produced to compete with European lines being imported into the United States. Early pieces were often unmarked so consumers wouldn't know the difference between American and European wares. Marked pieces of American Brilliant cut glass are prized by collectors with the names Hawkes and Libbey being familiar to most seasoned antiquers. Marks on cut glass can be difficult to locate and read. Identifying older. Quality cut glass can be confusing to the novice collector. It’s wise to do thorough research before paying high prices to add pieces to a collection. The American Brilliant Period in cut glass history began around 1850 and lasted into the early 1900's. Immigrants helped supply glass houses in the United States with skilled cutters allowing them to develop a product rivaling European cut glass. Prior to that time, most cut glass pieces were produced in England, Ireland and France. When American manufacturers displayed their wares at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, their clear, bright, leaded glass garnered new respect when compared to glass exhibited from other countries. From that point on, American cut glass became extremely popular as a gift item and most mid-income to affluent households held at least a few pieces to grace their elegant tables. This Wonderful American Brilliant Period Cruet is made out of very thick. Fine quality glass, it is decorated with deeply cut hobstars& fans, it has a crystal clear applied glass handle, and the stopper is beautifully decorated with at least 100 small facet cut surfaces. This Cruet has nice weight at 1 1/4 pounds. It measures 5 1/2 inches in height to the top of the stopper, by 3 1/2 inches in diameter across the widest portion of the body, the Stopper measures an impressive 3 1/8 inches in length, and both the cruet and the stopper are signed with a Libbey acid-etched manufacturing mark. The Quality of this Cruet is Excellent and it has seen very little use, there is a tiny nick where the handle is attached to the neck. The Stopper has just a couple of tiny nicks on the 100's of facets(please see photos) and that's it, both the cruet& stopper are in really nice condition, the glass is super shiny& bright. And there are no heat checks in the handle. The caps are marked for Sterling and one shaker is marked for Hawkes with the Trefoil mark. They are both in good used Estate condition showing normal age related wear. One shaker is slightly cloudy. There are no major chips. Cracks or major damage. There is a tiny bit of roughness. The caps are marked Sterling and have a repousse scroll pattern. Please view photos of the actual shakers you will receive. Hawkes cut glass was made by T.G. Hawkes& Company of Corning. New York, founded in 1880. The firm used cut glass blanks made at other glassworks until 1962. Many pieces are marked with the trademark, a trefoil ring enclosing a fleur-de-lis and two hawks. But I don't have a reference around to tell me exactly what they are, so please examine the pictures and determine it for yourself. Heavy etched cut glass plate+ relishw/ flowers American Brilliant?Crystal old LG
No chips or cracks.Some scratches on plate from use and storage. I would say the plate is pretty scratched. I am no expert. This has been in the family for many years,but I am not sure how old or who made it. Very thick glass and it is heavy. The relish dish is beautiful and has a few fleabites on the edge.I have shown the worse one.You can barely see them but you can fell them. As is so check photos.I know they are very old and have sat in a cabinet for at least 40 years.

Sugar bowl measures 2-5/8 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches wide at the rim. Bottom contact surface measures approximately 2 inches in diameter. Cream pitcher measures 3 inches tall at the spout and 2-3/4 inches wide at the rim. Bottom contact surface measures approximately 2 inches in diameter. Bottom decorated with a cut 24 point star pattern. Cut decor pattern is a combination of diamond shaped geometric stars and thumbprint circles with fan trimmings in between. Antique ABP American Brilliant Crystal Cut Glass 8" Serving Bowl Maybe Hawkes NR
This brilliant heavy cut crystal bowl weighs 3 lbs 8 oz and measures 7 7/8" across. The glass is about 3/8" thick and rings like a bell for a long time with the flick of a finger and you can feel it vibrate in your hand. I have had it for may years but never really new who made it. There are different cuts and patterns that look like Hawkes but I can not be 100% sure. There are many little nicks, chips and flakes on the teeth and jagged edges. This will close late on a Monday night(sorry) I've been away caring for my Mom so I don't have recent feedback but feel free to check. I have perfect feedback for 14+ years, so don't be afraid to bid! This is an absolutely beautiful large American Brilliant two piece cut glass punch bowl from early 1900s! First time on the market. Been in the same family since it was new 100+ years ago! I have some pictures somewhere of this in the old homestead and'if' I find one of them I'll send it to you with the bowl. No promises because I have no idea what box they're in but I will look! I don't know much about describing patterns on ABP glass so please ask questions! My pictures are an important part of my description! ... moreIt is extremely HEAVY. Thick clear glass with deep cuts. I'd guess 20 or 25 pounds! My pictures don't do it justice in the light! It sparkles beautifully. Like a diamond! It measures just shy of a foot tall(11 1/2+" and the bowl is right at 12" wide. The bottom of the pedestal base is 8" across. It only has a minimum number of fine scratches(light in my opinion) in the bottom of the bowl. Not deep and I can only see them holding it up to light. I found one scratch on the outside, side of the bowl. There are fleabites and some nicks in various areas as is common in this type glass. I'm told those can be fixed easily? There is one I don't know how to describe but it's like a sliver type chip. Like it was thinly sliced, if that makes sense, shallow) that I just noticed for the first time. It's at one of the'teeth' on the outside. The last picture shows a crack aprox 5/8" long that was caused at the same time as that chip/sliver thing. This auction is for a American Brilliant handled deep cut glass sugar bowl in good condition. Made between 1880's- 1920. It measures approx. 4 3/4" tall x 6 1/4" from handle to handle. It is quite a heavy piece. The pinwheel pattern is beautiful and throws off nice color. I don't see and chips or cracks. I see some very slight wear on the bottom. Beautiful American Brilliant Period Cut Glass Bowl~Cane, Cross Hatched, Beading
This cut glass bowl is unsigned. But is definitely from one of the premiere cutting houses of the American Brilliant period. The sides of the bowl have three deeply cut rosettes surrounded by beaded blaze and fan cuts.absolutely amazing in that they resemble large sunflowers. Each'flower' is separated by twisted mitre cuts with crosshatch, cane and single star cuts inside that pick up and reflect light at every turn. The mitred cuts end in fan cuts. There are three missing or chipped teeth at top, but no other chips, cracks or damage. Rings like a bell when tapped! Measures 9.25" across and 4" high. The bowl is signed on the center with a circular acid etched signature and the cut is nice and deep. SIZE: 7 1/2 inches long by 6 1/8 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches high. I read that antique crystal glass fluoresces a yellow color under a Black light. So I performed the black light test. I searched my pattern book and could not come up with a name. Bowl measures 7 7/8" across x 3 7/8" tall. Beautiful scalloped rim with one of the tiniest chigger/flea bite on the inside rim. YOU ARE LOOKING AT A MAGNIFICENT VERY EXQUISITE INCREDIBLE ANTIQUE ABP AMERICAN BRILLIANT PERIOD CRYSTAL CUT GLASS BOWL ~ LATE 1800's to EARLY 1900's This Absolutely Stunning and Very Radiant Rare American Brilliant Period CUT GLASS(CRYSTAL) Bowl was masterfully executed and handcrafted by a master craftsman glass cutter in the late 1800's to early 1900's. This Amazing Cut Glass Bowl measures approx. 8-1/4" inches in width x 3-1/4" inches deep. This gorgeous bowl is a one of a kind piece of cut art glass handcrafted from a very heavy lead crystal clear blank that has been deeply and precisely cut so that it reflects the light with an incredible brilliance that sparkle with rainbow flashes as it catchs the light and when tapped it has a very pretty sounding high pitched ring and a very intricate sharp to the ... moretouch cut art glass pattern design. The brilliant period cut glass patterns are so easily confused that we will just let our pictures do the describing but be confident this piece is like NO other listed on ebay and for it's age this piece is in remarkable condition! There are no cracks no hairlines no repairs there is one tooth on top rim that is half chipped off and one other tooth that has a chip but extremely hard to see with all the different many sizes of cut teeth on the top rim. There is a couple tiny fleabites and a small flake chip on the outside body of the bowl that we found with a magnifying glass. All are hard to see with the naked eye with so many deep intricate cuts, they could probably easily be buffed out and fixed also has a little ware on the outside bottom, that along with the few tiny bubbles from the manufacturing process, just adds to the authenticity of this wonderful old piece! This Vibrant Sparkling Bowl is an extraordinary example of the beautiful high quality cutting of the American Brilliant Glass Period. Lovely Antique/Vintage Cut Glass Nut/BonBon Dish decorated with a motif that includes Brunswick Star. Arches. And Fine Diamond cuts. The dish has a Scalloped Sawtooth edge. And- might be American Brilliant. Available for your bidding is this lovely vintage/antique Cut Glass Nut/BonBon Dish with a motif that includes Brunswick Star/ Arches/ Fine Diamond cuts. And has a Scalloped Sawtooth edge(See photos 1-3) When the underside is photographed. It shows a dramatic outline of the large central star(photo 4) This d ish has a diameter of 5" and is 1 1/4" high(at highest part of side) It feels heavy for its size. And weighs 0.7 lbs(11.2oz) This bowl is part of an antique collection from my Aunt's estate. And might be an American Brilliant Cut Glass piece. Condition: Generally in very good condition for an antique/vintage piece of ... morecut glass. Except that most of one scallop on the edge is chipped off as indicated by the yellow arrows( shown from both sides of the dish) in Photo 5. I read that antique crystal glass fluoresces a yellow color under a Black light. So I performed the black light test. And the bowl fluoresced an apple-green under long wave UV light. Antique/Vintage Cut Glass Fruit Compote - possibly American Cut Brilliant
Lovely Antique/Vintage Cut Glass Fruit Compote with Star. And Hobnail cuts and a Scalloped Sawtooth edge- might be American Brilliant Cut glass. Available for your bidding is this lovely vintage/antique Cut Glass Fruit Compote(See photos 1-3) with Star. And Hobnail cuts(See photos 3&4) and a scalloped Sawtooth edge(See photos 4&5) It has a thick hexagonal pedestal with delicate cuts along the edges(photo 6) The base is decorated with fan cuts(photo 7) The compote is 6 5/8" tall. The diameter of the bowl portion is 6" It feels heavy. And weighs 2.2 lbs(34.9oz) Compote only shows the wear expected with normal use of an antique/vintage piece of glassware which does not detract from its beauty. This bowl is part of an antique collection from my Aunt's estate. And might be an American Brilliant Cut piece.
