RARE 1770s IRISH SET 4 STERLING SILVER& COBALT SALTS Presented is a handsome. ... moreRare, and superb quality set of 4 sterling silver open salt cellars. The large oval shaped salt cellars are raised on four legs terminating in claw and ball feet. The bodies of the salts are pierced to reveal the brilliant cobalt blue cut glass liners underneath. Each salt has an elegant gadrooned rim. A cartouche on the side of the salts is engraved with a crest of a dragon's head. It is quite unusual to find a set of four Irish sterling silver master saltcellars. Well over 200 years old and all by the same maker, in the same pattern, with the same hallmarks. The salts are all marked with the seated Hibernia for sterling silver. The crowned harp for the city of Dublin, and the maker's mark of WB for William Bond who was active during the second half of the 18th century. The hallmark around the crowned harp exactly outlines the harp. This particular hallmark was used in 1786 and earlier. All of the four sterling silver salts in this set were made in 1786 or earlier, probably the 1770s. The salts are in excellent condition. The silver has no dents. No dings, no breaks, and no repairs. There are a few small splits to the silver on a couple of the salt cellars. We have shown the worst of these splits in the fifth photograph. Despite these small splits, the silver is structurally sound, and the salts are still perfectly useable. All of the glass liners have a star cut under the base. All of these liners are old. Three of them appeared to be original, the fourth is certainly a very old replacement. A few small chips might have been ground down on the liners over the past 230 years, but certainly nothing major and nothing that can be seen in a photograph. The cut glass liners are in superb condition with no chips, no cracks, and no breaks. The salts are 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/4 inches and stand 1 3/4 inches tall. The bowl was perhaps used as a serving dish or maybe a large covered jar. The lid and bowl are decorated with a nice diamond-cut pattern and vertical oblong cuts. The lid is decorated with a large. Pretty swirled drop-shaped handle. The lid fits nicely into the bowl with an inner recessed lip. The bowl has a polished pontil on the bottom with ray-cuts around the edges of the base. This was made between 1775 and the 1820s. The condition is excellent. The lid is in fabulous shape. The jar is in great shape as well. There are a few minor fleabites and flakes here and there. Early 19th C. Anglo Irish Cut Glass Open Sugar
Here is a beautiful piece of early 19th century Anglo-Irish cut glass in the form of what appears to be an open sugar or sweetmeat dish. Likely dating to around 1820. It measures 4 1/2" in height and about 4 1/2" across the top. It might have had a lid originally, although see no indication of a rim or any kind of contact wear where rim would have rested. Overall condition is excellent, water clear, but noted is some moderate roughage on the fan tops- fairly normal for this comparatively brittle early glass. Pictures are included to show the general edge condition- nothing worse than what you see- no chunks or cracks. Only other issue noted is a small pinhead flake which I have just noticed on a verticle rib as I write this description. All else is crystal clear and perfect. This Auction is for a pair of matching Antique Anglo-Irish Brilliant- Cut Footed Bowls. The bowls are circa fourth quarter 19th Century. And are beautifully decorated with various diamond cuttings in guilloche-patterned panels. With the rim cut in reverse serpentine pattern. The bowls stand just under 5 inches in height and 5 1/4 inches across the mouth. With the bases being 4 inches across. The bowls are heavy one weighs 1101 grams and the other 1248 grams. The bowls have light or minor chips to the rims and to the high points of the body of the bowls; however. This NO RESERVE auction is for a Rare c1800 Georgian Period Anglo Irish Cut Glass Lidded Bowl. The Bowl is quite unique in the fact that it has a Sterling Silver mounted rim with a great Rope design. Like no other I have personally seen. The Bowl and Lid are finely Cut throughout with nice period designs plus the Finial is cut in a great Spiral form. The Lid and Bowl also feature a nice cut out section for a large Serving Ladle or Spoon. I could not find any marking on the Silver but it does test to be Sterling Silver. The Bowl and Lid are in excellent all original condition with some minor signs of age and wear throughout but no large chips and no cracks or repairs of any kind. The Bowl may have originally been in a Silver Stand and if you have a Stand in need of a Bowl this is a great find. It is in overall good condition for its age with expected light minor fritting to the top rim. Additionally. Up for bid is a magnificent PAIR of Anglo Irish Cut Crystal footed Tazza and Compote. These stunning pieces have beautiful form. Ring like a church bell and have excellent heavy weight and cutting. TAZZA: photographed on left: The piece measures 5& 1/2" tall by 8" across the opening and the base measures 3& 1/2" across. The TAZZA has three glitz. Two can not readily be seen as they disappear in the carving. The one that is visible is 1/4" All damage photos were taken using a macro lens The compote measures 8& 3/4" tall by 6& 5/8" across the top opening and the base is 4&1/4" across. There is one glitz on an outside point. Condition is age appropriate(Late 19th Century) for these fine pieces. I would not consider either piece to have large defects. Up for your consideration. An antique Anglo-Irish syllabub or covered bowl from late 18th to early 19th century. Overall while it is not perfect it is still very presentable. It has a large clamshell chip to the underside of the foot and two sizable spots of loss to the interior rim of the lid one with a hairline. Additionally, there are several other chips to the interior rim. The bowl rim has several chips and there is some high point fritting and scratches throughout. Measurements: 12"H. 9.25"W.
