A remarkable early 1920's Dining Room Set made by the Berkey& Gay furniture company incorporated in 1873. Mahogony/Walnut construction with decorative roping and beautiful inlays for which their furniture is now in demand. Table is 62 inches long by 41 inches wide. Table has 6-11 inch wide leafs(never used)Table has heavy foldible set of pads to cover table top. Buffet is 72 inches long by 22 inches wide. Hutch is 41 inches wide by 63 inches high. 1-arm chair. 5- regular chairs. Chairs have been recovered with no wear. This Berkey& Gay dining set consists of a 3-leaf table. 8 chairs, 1 china hutch, 1 buffet and 1 sideboard. It is made of walnut, with many sections being bookmatched figured walnut- absolutely beautiful. All pieces are matching, and feature the metal medallion used in Berkey& Gay's furniture from the 1920's-1940's. Our best guess is that these pieces were made in the 20's. They're in excellent condition for this vintage. You'll see some very slight damage, shown in the last 4 photos. The first label was branded into the wood and can often be found inside the drawers of the Berkey& Gay case pieces. Around the year 1900 the branded type label was replaced by a paper label. The brass label was used starting around the 1920's until Berkey and Gay went out of business in the 1940's. Please note that it is not uncommon to find both brass and paper labels used during the same era. Especially on dining room suites where the Berkey& Gay paper labels were quite often used to mark the dining chairs. Antique Berkey & Gay Dining Set 1920s Burled Walnut Stunning!!
For auction is an absolutely stunning Berkey& Gay burled walnut dining set. It will become the focal point of any home. The set includes dining table with expansion leafs(to seat 8) Dust bag, and table pad. There are 6 chairs(one armchair) a linen cabinet, and a buffet. All pieces are hand carved, claw and ball. Chair seats are navy blue, floral, needlepoint and each one is unique. Truly the prettiest set I've ever seen. The fact that it still exists as a full set after traveling around the world and all over the USA make it even more unique. There are a few scratches and one claw(not foot) missing from the buffet, and one of the leafs is missing a trim piece on one side. I asked an antique restoration person, and he said the flaws can be repaired. There have not been any repairs that I'm aware of. I have for sale an absolutely beautiful antique Berkey& Gay dining set with matching buffet! Please see more pictures at the link below. This is a stunning example of American made furniture. Beautifully built and wonderfully decorated with burled walnut accents. It has a classic. Timeless style that is hard to find these days, a quality that just isn't found in modern furniture any more. I believe this set was made in the 1930's. As indicated by the brass tag used on the inside of the buffet drawer(pictured) The set is in very good condition! Very solid and kept well. There's a few spots of age on the buffet and some signs of use, but for a set that is 80+ years old, it's to be expected. It needs a good polishing and maybe some oil, but obviously it was taken care of. I am selling this set for a family friend. Berkey and Gay 1930's Carved Oak Dining Set 5 Chairs Buffet
This oak dining room set bears the make of Berkey and Gay and the Simmons Co. Who bought Berkey and Gay in 1929 and owned the Co thru 1935. The set has been in my Chicago family since the 1930's. Some may call it a Jacobean style, but I think of it as Art Deco. The table measures 60 inches long and 40 wide. There is a built in 18 inch leaf on each end which adds another 3 feet. There are four chairs, the fifth with arms. The seats are covered in a turquoise cotton and are not original, but easy to replace. The buffet stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 3 feet 9 inches across. It has one long drawer and then two shelves inside the bottom drawers and the pulls are original. Because it is at least 80 years old, the set has some chips and could be refinished. But this is solid oak with a great deal of carved wood. The table is heavy, so that in ... moreorder to move it the legs must first be removed and the bottom and top moved separately. This is a very unique Berkey& Gay dining set. It has the brass stamp under the table which dates it to about the 1920s to 1940s. It comes with three chairs. One captain's chair, the table, 3 leaves and the glass top. Table is 5 feet without leaves and 8 feet with them. Each leaf is 12 inches. Normal wear and tear. No damage. Very sturdy table and chairs. Up for sale is a magnificent dining set. This is by Berkey and Gay Furniture. And is from what we believe to be the 1920’s or 1930’s. It consists of a dining table with 6 chairs(one arm chair and 5 side chairs) with 3 extension leafs and a fabulous buffet or sideboard. All pieces have very intricate hand carvings. The table is in extremely good condition for its age, with only a few minor nicks that come with something that is almost 100 yrs old. The chairs are not original fabric, and are actually good candidate for easy re-upholstering to the pattern of your choice. I cannot say enough good things about the buffet…the picture is worth a thousand words. It is beautiful, unique and fabulous. The dining table is 60” long by 45” wide and 31” tall. 1920's Berkey & Gay 10 peice Dining suite with original papers
This original Berkey& Gay Dining Suite(THE COMARES) comes with a large hand painted sideboard and medium sized buffet along with a hand painted china cabinet and dining table with 2 leafs. 5 chairs and one arm chair for head of the table. I have the original papers that came with this set when purchased in the 1920's. Their are some condition problems such as a few scratches on dining table and feet on most pieces are chipped from moving due to the age of the furniture. This is a beautiful suite to have displayed in a very nice home to show off the detail of the furniture maker. Each piece has the brass inlay to show its originality.

Offered without reserve is a Vintage Berkey& Gay Dining Set manufactured in the U.S. sometime prior to 1940(the year that Berkey& Gay closed) Six chairs are included in the set- One Captain's Chair(with arms) and Five standard chairs. The table measures 60 inches long without the leaves. And 45 inches wide. The leaves are each 12 inches.bringing the installed length to 84 inches. The table has minor condition issues as follows: There is a stain from a hot serving tray on the table surface which is not offensive, but should probably be refinished.there are also a few thin slivers of veneer missing along the table edge and one area of lifting veneer that should be glued down. There is evidence of a split in the table's center leg(post) which does not effect the structural integrity of the piece. The chairs are in great condition- ... moresturdy and solid as the day they were fabricated.the upholstery is likewise in great condition(possibly replaced fabric) This is one of 3 pieces from this nearly antique set that I'll be listing this week.
