~ HMS Osprey Wood Mounted Metal Ships Plaque. Gipsy Class Destroyer ~ This circular plaque is painted and depicts an Osprey flying with a fish in its talons against a blue-green background. It is made of cast metal and is attached by screws to a shaped hard wood base. ~ HMS Osprey ~ HMS Osprey was a 30 knot Gipsy class destroyer which served with the Royal Navy. She was launched by Fairfield on the 7th of April 1897. Served in home waters through World War I and was broken up after hostilities ended in 1919. ~ Dimensions ~ The badge has a total height of 7.4 inches(18.5cm) and width of 5.75 inches(14.5cm) Weight approx 520 g. ~ Condition ~ The crest is in decent condition with light surface wear from storage. This bronze plaque is mounted onto an oak board& is easily ready for hanging. Bronze pieces tend to come from the actual vessel so it is probably an ex-wardroom piece. ~ HMS Alaric ~ HMS Alaric(P441) Was an Amphion-class submarine of the Royal Navy, built by Cammell Laird laid down in May 1944 and launched 18 February 1946. Alaric served on the home station all her life and was modernised in the 1960s. In 1953 she took part in the Fleet Review to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. In 1968 she was part of the First Submarine Squadron based at HMS Dolphin and took part in Navy Days at Portsmouth during that year.
