The pintles are bronze and have a diameter of 5/16 inches. Not sure what metal the rudder itself is. Wood Sailboat Rudder Vintage with Lake Norman NC Provenance
Calling all nautical buffs for this impressive. One of a kind, authentic, sailing decor! Complete with Lake Norman, NC area local history, this rudder dates to the early years of the lake, circa 1960's. Originally, it was stored in the barn of the Robinson farm in Mooresville, NC and purchased from Mr. Robinson in the early 80's. There is a knothole that has fallen out and some light surface decay of the wood that only adds to its character. This rudder is a transom hung, tiller driven style and the holes of where the original hardware and straps were attached are evident. I have hand rubbed several coats of rich furniture wax over the original paint, since the paint was rubbing off on everything it touched. This is a bronze rudder head we found at a local estate sale. The inside diameter of the hole measures 1 inch. It has some wear around some of the holes and it looks like it has been cut? See pic#6. VINTAGE ANTIQUE SAILFISH SAILBOAT RUDDER OLD NAUTICAL MARITIME
Vintage Sailfish sailboat rudder in fair condition for restoring or decoration. Wood has knicks dents and gauges from hitting rocks but still extremely sturdy. Please see pictures. Used to belong to our fiberglass Sailfish(predecessor to the Sunfish) Still can be used with an existing Sailfish after a good sanding and polyurethane coat. Rudder Measures: 24.5" long x 8.5" wide. This wooden sailboat rudder measures 9 inches wide at center and is 37 inches tall from end to end. It does have some rust on the metal parts and shows wear fro age and use with some scuffs. Scratches, and light nicks to wood. I do not see any splits or cracks to any of the wood. Very nice patina to the wood which would make this display very well. VINTAGE WOODEN FULL LENGTH SAILBOAT RUDDER
This wooden sailboat rudder measures 2 foot long by 9 inches wide at the center and the handle length when extended is 5 foot. The handle does move freely where attached to rudder and also where the joint is to handle. This does show some wear from use and age. There is some rust on metal parts and also some scuffs. Scratches and wear marks to the wood on this. The most noticeable is the chips to bottom of rudder by hardware. I do not see any bad splits or cracks to wood. Very nice patina to the wood which would make this display very well. I will have to take the handle off for shipping. Great for display for game room, vacation home or business. I used this for Nautical decor. The person I purchased from some time ago said that it was from a early 1900's Sailboat, the boat had disintegrated and this was all that was left. Vintage Sailboat Wood Rudder Tiller Daggerboard Centerboard
Look at both shipping rates to find the cheapest. Sometimes priority is cheaper. Well I can tell you I know nothing about sailboats or boats. All I have learned I have learned on ebay and what some people told me it was. There are two items both made of wood. The first one is the rudder which has the skinny piece of wood which I think is called the tiller-the tiller is frozen in place. There is a screw with a nut that has rusted and looks like varnish over that. It will take a very patient and gifted man to get that part off without breaking the tiller. Also on the rudder is what looks like a door hinge-also very old and not looking like its in the best shape-but tightly intact. Old damage around the diameter of the rudder-few small pieces of wood gone-like water damge-to me so minor-varnish has been added to this piece. Rudder Measures 18 ... morelong x 14 tall at its tallest area where the hinge is x 7 1/2 tall at its shortest area. The tiller is 25 1/2 long. Next piece is the centerboard or daggerboard-same wood and same varnish. Same old wood damage around the diameter as seen in photos. Measures about 29 1/2 long x almost 9 inches wide x 1/2 in thick. Open part like a handle-piece of wood on both sides under that handle where it would stop it from I guess going into the water-measuring to that piece of wood it measures 26 inches long. I think these pieces would look so much better if the varnish was stripped/ a bit of sanding/ then reapply varnish. Not sure which sailboat this would go on. Looks like it would work again if you release the tiller. If anyone has any info on which sailboat or dingy this goes on I would appreciate you contacting me. Thanks! Description I have listed a Vintage Wooden Sailboat Rudder. I’m not sure how old this is or what kind of boat it came off of but it does work or it would make a great nautical art wall decoration. It’s in great shape and the wood has a very nice color. The rudder measures approximately 27 ½” long x 9” high. The bottom arm is approximately 42” long and the top one is 24” I believe that the connections are brass and the arms will be disconnected from the rudder for shipment. All are free of any chips.
