Vintage Life Line or Life Boat Fog Horn With Leather Bellows & Large Brass Horn
Google the name"big ship salvage" and you will learn more about who we are! You are bidding on leather bellows horn shown in the above photos. Some people have told me it is some sort of Life Line Horn and others have also indicated they were used as fog horns on Life Boats. Either way. They are cool looking items. The wood base measures about 10 X 21 inches. When sitting up right, the tip of the brass horn is 19 inches tall. The large end of the brass horn measures about 12 1/2 inches wide. The leather bellows is in good condition and does not look like it is going to fall apart any time soon. The brass horn threads onto the base, and can be positioned in different angles. This item works, but sounds more like a sick duck. Most days it will make noise, but she is a little funny on other days and makes no noise. The noise issue ... morehas to do with a brass reed flapper valve that is located in the neck of the unit where the brass horn screw on. This reed valve has a metal tab that can be adjusted, but I have not really figured out the correct way to tune it. I recovered this from one of the ship breaking yards in Bangladesh. It was sitting in a storage building, and no one could tell me what vessel it was pulled from. The unpacked weight is about 16 pounds, but it will weigh a lot more than that once I pack it. So this horn is available. This horn has a tiny old tag that indicates it is MADE IN INDIA. However, we do not know when it was made. It was purchased at auction in the larger set of horns mentioned earlier in this description. We can, at least, say it is over 25 years old because it has been hanging on our wall. We have seen others which are very similar to it that are new and recent reproductions from India. We don't know if those reproductions are of this horn, or if this horn is another, but much earlier, reproduction. Anyway, this is a working horn with a nice look and feel. You can buy a new horn any day. But, today, you have an opportunity to buy one that has been around for a quarter of a century or more with a nice aged finish and patina. L.D. Lothrop Type Fog Horn with Rotating Crank
This interesting large(21-1/2" X 14-1/4" X 8-1/2" old fog horn came out of an estate sale. And I do not know its history. I do not know if it is a reproduction or a refurbished fog horn. The horn works by rotating the brass handle crank and makes a loud noise(you could replace that old dinner bell! A dollar bill is on top in one picture to show size. The device shows some age and the crank is slightly bent. I like to use FedEx for shipping. PayPal only, because of Ebay’s payment policy. You are bidding on an antique fog horn. This horn works and is extremely loud. You need to use a lot of air force. 20.25" long and has some of the original red paint still on it. Vintage Max Kuner Co. Seattle manual fog horn in wooden box - works
This is a listing for a vintage Max Kuner Co. Seattle manual fog horn in wooden box. It does work– just ask my neighbors! It takes about 12-15 pumps to get it to sound. I had to add a few parts to make it work that aren’t period correct. The hose from the bellows to the horn. The clamp holding the horn in place, and the screws for the top lid are not original. The wooden box has been painted and the leather handle on the top is broken. It measures approx. 20-5/8” x 9-1/4” x 16-1/2” tall. Weighs about 24 pounds. Antique LD Lothrop Box Fog Horn Works Patented 1901 Note: All items in our store include NO sales tax to our US customers! Here is a great marine/nautical piece for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself! This piece came from the extensive collection of the estate of a party that lived in NJ along the Delaware River south of Philadelphia. We have a number of that collector's marine/nautical items that we will be listing separately for sale in our Ebay store over the next few days. Those items include Mermaid Ship's Figurehead(Folk Art Piece) A ship model, two ship's compasses and their boxes, and a brass, aluminum and glass telegraph with the stand. Beautiful addition to any marine/nautical collection here. The box has much of the original paint and some ... moreof the stenciling on it. The one side of the box has a split running thru it horizontally. This horn still works as well! One way. But not the other. I think these boxes had double bellows in them. Not sure what condition the bellows are in as did not take apart the box to look at it. Will probably need to be restored at some time just due to the age of the piece. The box still has the original brass plate on showing the patent year of 1901 and that it was made in Gloucester. MA. Has the serial number of 6570 on the plate. This makes it the earliest one I have found that is online for sale. The leather strap on the top of the box gave way some time in the past. This is one of the earlier fog horn boxes that was made by Lothrop. It has the handle for operating the horn on the end of the box. Unlike the newer ones that had the handle on the side of the box.
