A piece of history! Absolutely fabulous 7” wine plate, an incredible souvenir of the major passenger line Moore-McCormack , with this ship part of the ... morefleet known as “The Good Neighbor”, sailing between NY and South America. The plate is hand colored and crafted by the Delano Studios. It is in good vintage condition with some light scratches on the picture and some loss to the gold trim. 1914 MY TRIP Journal by Cross w/ Pencil Titanic Sailing Maritime Ephemera
WOW! 100 year old unused leatherbound journal. This item was donated to my church's yardsale to benefit the building fund. The lady who made the donation hoped to have this journal sail with the Titanic's next voyage. It is unused and only slightly damaged. One blank page has a small pencil mark. Made by one of her grand-children. But, yes, the Cross mechanical pencil works. They also tore out the attatched map in the back of the journal to look at it.It was glued to the back cover originally. As you can see from the picture, it does have some small rips at folds, but is intact other than small piece still attatched to book. Made in 1914,this is an awesome piece. It measures 7" by 4&3/4" when closed with the clasp. The outside shows some minor scuffing on the edges, but there are no rips or tears. It is labeled"MY ... moreTRIP" on the spine. Inside there are 4 pages of flags and there meanings followed by 10 pages of general information. These run from foretelling weather to mailing times and distances from New York. Then there are 2 pages to record the ship, line and captain's signature for the trip. This is followed by pages for itinerary, side trips, hotels stopped at,people met, incidents, and a huge section for"Places visited. The back few pages are alphabetized and tagged for a small address book. The winner of this auction will receive a receipt from the church and it should be tax-deductible. Thanks for looking. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Boston Salem Maritime History Bill of Sale Sailing Trading Merchant Brig Potomac
This auction features a bill of sale for the Brig Potomac. The sale was between the presumable partners of Michael Shepard/John Bertram/Andrew Ward of Salem and Edward D. kimball. The Brig Potomac was 155 tons and William B. bates was the master. The ship was built in Charlestown. Massachusetts in 1846. The sale was 1849. Please ask questions. The Peabody Essex Museum has the following in their archives: The logbook of the brig Potomac details a voyage from Salem to the East coast of Africa(Aug. 1848 to Aug. 1849) Home port was Salem. Mass. owners were M. Shepard, A. Ward and J. Bertram; master was William B. Bates. It is a daily log describing wind, weather, location and sightings of ships. John Bertram 1795- 1882. Philanthropist The roster of great Salem shipping merchants is an impressive one: Elias Derby. William Gray and Simon Forrester, ... moreto name just a few, were three of America's first millionaires. But if the true measure of a man is how he treats those less fortunate than himself, John Bertram is unquestionably the"cream of the Salem merchant crop" Bertram was 11 years old when his family came to America in 1806 from the Isle of Jersey. He shipped out to sea for the first time as a cabin boy on the Hazard during the war of 1812. He spent much of the war on board British prison ships. And returned home penniless and barefoot. Undaunted by the experience. Bertram promptly returned to sea. His natural business instincts served him well and, by 1830, the young seaman was able to buy a one quarter interest in his first ship. By 1836, Bertram owned a fleet of vessels and was actively trading in Batavia, Sumatra, Zanzibar and other foreign ports. When gold was discovered in California in 1849. Bertram added to his fortune by shipping supplies to prospectors in the gold fields. Intrigued by the possibilities of western expansion, he built, and then managed, a number of railroads in the western United States. As a result of his many business ventures. John Bertram became a very wealthy man. Much of h

Edward Kimball(1835) graduated at Amherst College, was president of the Boston Board of Trade, and a merchant in Boston. His married his cousin, Susan Sawyer Kimball. Edward D. Susan continued to live a quiet life. She was a charitable woman who was known for her sympathetic nature. She died in 1902. In 1850. Kimball entered a partnership with John P. Squire and Hiland Lockwood. The new firm name was given the name John P. Squire& Company. With the formation of this partnership, Squire sought to expand the business to include the killing and dressing of hogs for the Boston market. By 1855, he had purchased a tract of land along Miller’s River in East Cambridge and constructed a small slaughterhouse. Beginning in 1866, the original partnership between Lockwood, Kimball, and Squire went through several changes and by 1884, the company partnership consisted of John P. Squire and his two sons, Frank O. Squire and Fred F. Squire. Mr. Squire continued the business at the same place alone until 1850, when the firm of John P. Antique framed sailing ship oil painting by famous Maritime artist William Edgar
Antique original oil on canvas marine painting of a sailing ship by famous marine artist William Edgar. This by no means is perfect and is offered the way it was brought from the estate. I have tried to include detailed photos so please look closely as the pictures are part of the description and this is being sold as is in the photos. Original frame by a San Francisco framing Company. And sticker is still intact on the back. Painting is an oil on canvas, Wood frame with gesso. Frame has small pieces of the gesso missing and has some discoloring in some areas, with gold missing in several areas, and old original wire on the back for hanging. Canvas has a tiny area in the clouds where it is very thin and almost a hole. The photo does not show this well, and I tried to get a closeup of it. The paint loss is all in the extreme bottom along the ... moreedge in the water area. If you were going to have it restored, I would think this would be an easier fix than anywhere else on the canvas. Good news is the ONLY paint loss is here in the water area. Naturally has not been cleaned either. I have tried to show a zoom of the old battleship in the background. This must be WWI because the artist died in 1918. Overall frame measures 26 3/4" by 22 1/2" Canvas size is approx 21" x 16" This is a lovely old painting with beauty and character as it hangs, and by a very famous painter to boot! It is said his rarest paintings are from after he moved to the bay(which the framing sticker shows) Here is some info about the painter I found: William Edgar(flourished from 1870-to 1918) Australian. Born in Australia. Edgar sailed in 1918 as passenger bound for San Francisco aboard the bark JANE L. STANFORD. While working in Sydney he had gained a reputation as an accomplished ship portraitist and painter of marine views. He also created numerous works showing Newcastle, New South Wales. During the years in Sydney, he was affiliated with Samuel L. Hood's adelaide photo company, painting precise, striking portraits from phot
