Rare 17th - 18th Century Trade Bead: From Sunken Pirate City-Port Royal, Jamaica
Up for auction is an extremely rare authentic 17th- 18th Century Glass Trade Bead which was recovered from an archaeological dig conducted in the famous(or rather infamous) sunken pirate city of Port Royal. Jamaica. I had purchased this artifact from a local that had been directly involved in the dig quite a few years back. This emerald green colored glass trade bead still has some sediments in the nooks and crannies! Port Royal was founded in 1655 after the English captured the island from the Spanish. As a deterrent to prevent the Spanish from attempting to recapture the island. The English invited pirates and privateers to use Port Royal as their base for making raids on Spanish settlements and shipping. Within a few years. Port Royal became the richest city in the Americas, as well as the most wicked city in the world. One of every four ... morebuildings was either a tavern or brothel where the pirates squandered away their ill-gotten loot. Many church going citizens of the island predicted that this"Sodom and Gomorrha" would one day fall into the sea as God’s punishment. At twenty minutes before noon on June 7th. 1692, a devastating earthquake struck the island followed by three tsunami waves. In a matter of minutes. Almost all of the two and three story brick buildings sank into the sea and over 3.000 souls perished. Although the port was rebuilt. It never regained it’s former glory or importance as the King of England eventually closed it to pirates. This historical artifact will be accompanied by a custom certificate of authenticity and is priced well below its rarity as quality treasures from this area are extremely tough to find on the market these days due to the fact that no further excavations are allowed in this area.

Many church going citizens of the island predicted that this Sodom and Gomorrha would one day fall into the sea as God’s punishment. At twenty minutes before noon on June 7th. 1692, a devastating earthquake struck the island followed by three tidal waves. In a matter of minutes. Almost all of the two and thre

RECOVERED 17TH CENTURY BROTHEL/TAVERN PORT ROYAL, JAMAICA MUSKET BALLS ARTIFACT
RECOVERED SMALL MUSKET BALLS FROM 17TH CENTURY PORT ROYAL.
