Vintage Antique Sailor's Rigging Knife & Marlin Spike Set Nautical Handmade Old
This is an original antique sailor's rigging knife set with marlin spike in the original sheath in very good used condition. The knife measures 9 1/4 inches long with a 5 1/2 inch blade and the spike is 8 1/4 inches overall. They appear to be handmade and there are no markings or maker's name visible. My best guess is they date from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. I believe the handles are whale bone but I'm not 100% sure of this. Nice overall condition with normal wear and age tarnish. The spike has a hairline crack on one handle. The black leather side-by-side sheath holds both items and has a brass belt loop attached. $8 priority shipping within the US. Thanks!

Old antique sailor's sheath with a rigging knife and marlin spike. Believed to be circa 1930s, well used and worn. Closed measures 5 3/4 inches long. Contains one old flat-tipped rigging knife, measuring closed about 4 inches long, and one marlin spike at about 4. 5 inches long. The leather sheath has some fancy knotted rope work, and the marlin spike is attached to the sheath. The leather has a tear on the piece with the snap closure, and shows wear and dirt all over. The knife is rusty and dirty, as is the marlin spike. Well used, as found in an old barn. I'm told the flat tipped knife is so it can be easily hit with a mallet to cut thick rope, and the marlin spike is used to open up tightened knots and when splicing lines used in sail making and repair. RARE Antique Shipbuilders Knife Belt Marlin Spike Vintage Nautical Rope Net Tool Up for auction today is a nice example of American ingenuity. I bought this off a person whose grandfather was a ship builder in Long Island new York. It was his tool belt for working on rope/ netting. The belt held 2 marlin spikes(not included) and his knife. What makes it unique is the way it is made. The copper rivets on the knife sheath are hand made and the stitching on the sheath. Marlin spike holder and belt is made of copper. The knife appears to be hand made and still has a good edge on it. The belt is approx 40” long 1 ¼” wide and is marked MADE FROM TRIPLE STRETCHED LEATHER. The double marlin spike holder is approx 5 ½” tall by 4” wide. The knife from end to end is 10” long with the blade portion being 6 ¼” by 1 ¼” wide.
