The open top pair is marked with a"CW" on one side and the number one on the other. They measure 5" long. The other pair is unmarked and measures 5.25" long. This auction is for all 4 locks! Up for auction is a pair of Wilcox crittenden collaspable oar locks brackets. The holes at the top of the brackets is 5/8. The brackets are brass. Crittenden& Co. In 1847. Middletown was New England's largest inland port, and it was in that year the company that would become Wilcox, Crittenden& Co. Inc. was established. This is a pair of old used Wilcox Crittenden brass or bronze oar locks we found in boat salvage yard. Each one was used for holding the oar of a rowboat. The opening of each one measures 2 inches wide and the shaft is 1/2 inch diameter. One of the locks has a slight bend in the shaft. Antique brass bronze oar paddle locks and cleat maritime boat ship decor
Up for auction to U.S. customers only are a nice pair of very old oar locks and a cleat to tie off the boat or ship's lines. The cleat is 8 inches long. The locks measure 6 inches high(excluding the chain) by 2-1/2 inches at the widest part of the opening. I believe they are all made of brass and bronze(although there may be copper in parts) Cool items if you're restoring an old boat or for your nautical decorating. There is 1 set of ones with pins in them. All need a good cleaning. Set measures approx 4 1/2" long x 2" inside, metal is 5/8" wide, and shaft is 2" long. Other pinned one is 4 1/2" long, 1 3/4" inside, 5/8" wide, and 2" long shaft. Open one is 5" long, 1 5/8" top opening, 3/4" wide, 1 3/4" shaft. All shafts are approx 1/2" thick. These are AS IS! And I do not know what these are made of but since I have ruled out cast iron, I believe they may be made out of brass or bronze. Each oar lock measures@ 5 inches in length and they weigh almost 10 ounces together. The diameter of the hole measures almost 1/2" I've provided a variety of photos for a sampling of what you might expect when you bid on this item. Vintage Matched Pair Brass Davis Oar Locks patent dated Aug 3rd 1875
The images are actual photos of the Oar Locks. The oar locks are a match pair with the initials of a previous owner on both ESF. The patent date of Aug 3 rd 1875 is stamped in the same location on each of the oar locks. No other names or marking can be found. There are no chips. Bends or cracks in the brass.
