Up for auction is a very Well made Heavy Rare. Amazing& Wonderful one of a kind find! Would make a fabulous Christmas or Birthday Gift or any special occasion for any Maritime Collector. This would be great for a maritime office, library or museum. Also, could be a stunning designer piece for any oceanside property such as a B&B, hotel or motel, restaurant near the sea, lake, camp or anywhere. It could used for a variety of uses such as medicine, cookbooks, brochures, maps, office papers, on& on only limited to the imagination of a time gone by. This Neat Old Collectible, I was told is a piece that belonged to a famous Great Lakes Sea Captain named Capt. Thomas Ellery from Port Huron, Michigan. He was a Capt. there around 1860s& he lived to around 1903. It is a very unique piece& has a nice look to it. I believe this to ... morebe a Walnut or Mahogany type wood(quite heavy& solid) with brass or brass colored knobs& trim. There is a slide out writing desk style board on the bottom of the cabinet but is seen on the top in some pictures. 100% Original 19th Century Sea Chest Cleats W/ Original Old Red Paint From Maine
100% original 19th century hand carved sea chest beckets. These have their original well worn 19th century red paint on them. These just came out of a old tool box from a barn in coastal Maine(along with another pair I have already sold) The beckets measure 5 1/2" tall and a little over 3/4" wide. Distance between the two nail holes are about 3 3/4" apart. Great untouched patina with a beautiful look. See pics.

Antique Captains Sea Chest 1800s Early 1900s With Markings And Beautiful Paint
Beautiful antique captains sea chest. Painted light green. Paint is very old and creates perfect patina. The wood looks like pine. It's put together with very old looking nails. It's not dovetailed but I still believe it's from either the late 1800s or early 1900s. The underside of the lid has amazing original carvings that look like a mariners compass and other markings that may have been used for navigation. I've never seen carvings like this in a chest before. It's very cool! Would make a great coffee table or bed storage. And will immediately become the interest piece in any room. It's very sturdy well built and heavy. So local pickup only. Or you arrange pickup. It measures at 48 inches by 21 1/2 inches on the top. and 17 1/2 inches high. Searsport Maine Sea Captain's Chest Belonging to Capt. Joseph W. Wallnutt. Capt. Wallnutt was a ship captain(Born Apr. 18. 1828, Ireland,Died Sep. 6. 1907) who sailed from Searsport(Waldo County) Maine according to the book Searsport Sea Captains by Colonel Frederick Frasier Black(1960) p. 121 and also verified by census records. According to the above source, Joseph sailed on the following vessels: the barkentine Clara E. McGilvery(1873-1875) the ship W.R. Grace(1882-1889) which was wrecked on Cape Henlopen, and the ship A.J. Fuller(1892-1894)Captain Wallnutt also served in the U.S. Navy on the sloop-of-war Jamestown in the South Atlantic station for 5 years. The chest has the original cloth lining and till. Most often we are left to speculate which sea captain a particular antique item belongs to- but in this case the box is clearly marked Capt. W. Chase on the front and 1868 on the end panels. There is a Sea Captain by that name from Nantucket. Ma. it is a beautifully inlaid box with a lovely geometric pattern across the top and the front and sides and back all have inset panels. There is also a diamond inlaid across each side of the front, sides and back. the wood appears to be mahogany or walnut.
