It was originally thought that these quick release wooden or brass fastening pins were for securing the running ends of the running rigging appeared in the mid-17th century. However. Belaying pins were found during the excavation of the Mary Rose, sunk in 1545, indicating that they were used at least 100 years earlier. These Belaying pins were newly buffed to show their beautiful Shiny Brass the look of it's original state. These pins are solid brass each weigh approx. 1 1/2lbs each. These are very early Belaying pins.

This is a nautical miles guage and it was made in England by Thomas Walker& Son Ltd. We are not sure of the exact age but we do know that production stopped in the early 1980's. This is a very heavy gauge and it is made of solid brass. All of the parts/ pieces are present and it is in very good condition. We imagine it would work just fine however we have not tested it. The thick glass face(which seems unbreakable) is free from any chips or cracks or scratches. On the back of the gauge is the serial number AB8357. The gauge measures 7" at the widest point and is 9" tall as shown. The face itself has a diameter of 6 1/2" And the ... moregauge would project 3" when mounted. Up for Auction is a Used Vintage Boat/Yacht 8 Spoke Steering Wheel. The Steering Wheel measures 16" across. The Steering Wheel came off one of my relatives boat some time in the mid or before 1900's. The Steering Wheel is brass with painted wood for the"handles" With a little work to polish and repaint the handles. It would certainly be a conversation piece.
