A piece of history! Absolutely fabulous 7” wine plate, an incredible souvenir of the major passenger line Moore-McCormack , with this ship part of the ... morefleet known as “The Good Neighbor”, sailing between NY and South America. The plate is hand colored and crafted by the Delano Studios. It is in good vintage condition with some light scratches on the picture and some loss to the gold trim. Maritime History Lord Nelson Victory Antique Staffordshire Jug Early 19thC
Maritime History Lord Nelson Victory Antique Staffordshire Jug Early 19thC"England Expects Every Man To Do His Duty" This is a stunning piece of historically important pottery! It is an old brown pearlware jug- probably of Staffordshire origin- which commemorates the Napoleonic Wars and the death of Lord Nelson in 1805. His flagship was of course the world renowned HMS Victory which is decorated to the reverse. The jug has n early transfer print with a portrait of Nelson and various symbols and trophies of war. The same jug can also be seen in a cream colorway. Although this is a Jackfield type brown with canary yellow print. The condition is very good but there is a small chip to the top rim by the spout. I cannot however see any cracks or restorations. One further thing to point out is that the bottom base has some lettering which ... moreis ever so slightly visible in certain lights- this is I believe a UV type marker denoting the previous owners postcode in event of art theft. It has legitimately come onto the market- but it is worth mentioning just so you know. Although it certainly does denote just what a special piece this is and how treasured it has been. The Gentlemans Club Steamship Company 19thC Rare Antique Naval Maritime History
The Gentleman's Club Steamship Company 19thC Rare Antique Naval Maritime History This is a historically interesting ceramic plate. It is an example of pearlware with its bluish grey hue. It was a piece from the Boston Mill Steamship Company and would date to around 1850. In all likelihood this would have been produced by a Staffordshire pottery as England was still the centre of world ceramic production in the Victorian era. It has an early brown transfer print with a delightful depiction of the"Gentleman's Club" Surrounded by all different vessels. For me it is just wonderful to hold a piece like this and consider the stories behind it as it would have been used on board. The plate measures approximately 8 inches in diameter. The plate is in good condition. There are however some flaws I could say are very minor age related ... morecrazing and very minor discolouration, and a chip to the bottom base inner rim. I have several other interesting antique plates from the pottery and would significantly discount postage on multiple buys. It seems to be somewhat more than coincidental that one of the products most in demand in Africa was American cotton cloth, which was traded for hides, ivory, and particularly gum copal, a resin used in varnish. This connection allowed another new industry to flourish in Salem, Jonathan Whipple’s gum copa

Orange Sunderland Lustre Pudding Set 19thC Maritime History Naval Victorian 1840
Orange Sunderland Lustre Pudding Set 19thC Maritime History Naval Victorian 1840 This is a fabulous and highly unusual complete 19th century dessert service. It would have been made by one of the Sunderland area potteries around 1840-1860. The lustre technique was achieved with the addition of mineral salts to the firing of the piece in the kiln- creating a lovely iridescence. Most Sunderland pieces had a maritime theme because it was so much a part of the lives of the people up there. These bowls however. Also have religious and moral warnings in the typically Victorian taste. The large bowl measures 13 inches by 5 inches. The pudding bowls measure approximately 6 by 3 inches The set is in on the whole good condition for their age but with tiny flaws. One bowl does have a hairline crack of approximately 2 inches, there are a few other smaller ... morecracks, varying degrees of discolouration and fading, but no chips(bar small nibbles to some bottom base foot-rims) or significant damages. The set consists of ten pieces. The large basket centrepiece measuring 16.5 inches by 12, surrounded by 9 little individual dishes measuring 7 inches by 6. I have included many photographs to give you a good impression of the pieces quality and condition. Do please ask a question if you would like further descriptions of specific parts. Antique Ship Outfitter Ledger, Rare Maritime History, England, 1823-1828
This handwritten antique leather ledger is a very rare. One-of-a kind find! It is the ledger of an English ship outfitter, with entries from 1823 to 1828, and although we can't be certain as to the name of the outfitter, it appears to originate in the area of Monkwearmouth Shore, County Durham, England. Contemporary writings identify that the population of Monkwearmouth was increasing, mainly from ship building and chain, anchor, rope, and canvas factories) It has an upfront alphabetical index, is incredibly neat and precise, has very detailed records of ships and their purchases, owners, dates, etc. and it is all contained in this 250 page huge(nearly 10 pounds) ledger. Numerous ships are identified. Some of which are The Amaranth, Diana, Peggy, George, Endeavor, Industry of Lynn, Comet, Margaret, William& Isabella, Imperial, Janet, ... moreNelly, Brothers, Jean, Manchester, Vestal, etc. These ships and their crews sailed to ports around the world, and were outfitted with canvas, rope, nails, varnish, spikes, sails and necessary supplies to keep these ships and schooners seaworthy. Amongst the many names in the ledger are William Cassap, owner of The Endeavour, John Anderson& Sons(Newcastle) William Morrison, Thomas Turner, owner of The Margaret, Marmaduke Wake, John Humble, James Hall(Monkwearmouth Shore) William Crozier, Joseph Swan, Thomas Reed(Sunderland) Duncan Robertson, William Ord(Bishopwearmouth) Capt. Robertson, owner of the Brothers of Gardenstown, Capt. Hall, owner of The Isabella, Barbara Wealands, owner of the Ship Barbara, Ogden Brown, John Alcock, owner of The Hewsingers, Capt. 19th c. BALTIMORE MARITIME SCHOONER LEDGER LOG AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY SLAVERY
A REMARKABLE expense(and earnings) ledger or log for the Schooner Yaratilda of Baltimore from the early 1830s. The volume. Which I recently purchased out of the Boston area estate of serious collector, is a well-worn small bound ledger measuring approximately 6” x 4” The spine is black leather. The flyleaf is signed several times with the name“William S. Floyd, some additional figures, and the words“Bedford, Baltimore, and“Maryland. In pencil, the words“Charleston, S.C. New York, and“Bedford Springs” appear. Inside, there are approximately 39 sides of pages with writing in both ink and pencil– and another 35 or so pages are blank. Written across two of the pages are the lines, Names Free People of Colour taken to New York in the Sch. Yaratilda Capt. J. Wilkins( 16th( Nov. 1831 Names of those paid/ Those not paid. Below this heading, there ... moreis a series of names(the last names are Weeks and Pool. Other names on the next pages are Carter, Leah Moses, Godwin, Lewis, and others. Lists of passengers elsewhere in the ledger include references to“2 Negroes. Other names include Rutters, Edward R. Waddey, Jacob Nottingham, W. Vaughan. There are many lists of either the“Sch, Yaratilda’s cargo” or supplies purchased for voyages circa 1832. Such cargo&or purchases included coffee, cotton twine, lump sugar, bacon, beef, yarn, candles, potatoes, oats, leather, rope, pork, whiskey, white corn, and yellow corn. There are brief expense records for meals in places such as the Spring Tavern, and(in Frederic? the Brick Tavern. Digging around online, I did find at the Fulton History site a reference to the newly fitted Schooner Yaratilda“arrived from Baltimore” in the 1834 or 1835 NEW YORK MORNING COURIER newspaper. I would consider adding a BUY IT NOW price for a fair offer above the modest starting bid price. Thanks!
