I first want to explain that in the United States from the 1870s up until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. You had amateur painters. Professional painters, professional porcelain decorating and painting studios and some American poreclain potteries had their own decorating departments. One crucial piece of knowledege you kneed to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and it was its own state from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive then our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Therefore we have an abundance of antique hand painted porcelain by Americans on blanks marked from another country. Antique Gilded Hand Painted Creamer And Sugar (Sugar has damage so cheap)
Antique hand painted creamer and sugar have beautiful gilding. The gilding is beautiful. There are no makers marks on the bottom but the set looks high quality. Unfortunately there are 2 small chips. One on the edge of the creamer lip. I never noticed it until I was taking pictures as it fits in with the fancy edge of the creamer so not noticeable at all. The sugar has a small chip underneath where the lid sits so you cannot see it until you pull off the lid. The bottom of the sugar bowl has a hole. So have priced this set low accordingly. Antique Sugar Bowl Delinieres Limoges hand painted by White’s Art Co pre 1923 This unique and exquisite antique sugar bowl was handed down to me from my grandmother. It’s probably part of tea set but I have not found any other pieces like this to confirm that. It’s in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only natural paint wear on the handles and at the top rim where the lid sets. What seems to be a paint blemish on the right side of the rim(see picture#6) appears to be White’s Art Co triangular stamp. It measures almost 3 inches tall. 5 inches wide from handle to handle, it has a 3 inch circumference top and a 3.5 inch circumference bottom. The porcelain blank was made by The Delinieres& Co from Limoges. France and the D&Co mark dates its manufacturing between 1894 and 1900. The intricate Gold painted roses in art deco ... morestyle were done by White’s Art Co of Chicago. The White's Studio of Chicago operated as a decorating Studio from 1914-1923 in downtown Chicago. During this era they produced hand painted wares that matched the great studios of the day including Pickard. Brauer, Donath, Osborne, and Stouffer. A number of their artists also decorated at the Pickard Studio, as well as other less known decorating studios. In fact, this piece looks very much like a Pickard piece but the famous red triangle mark of White’s Art Co proves otherwise. See Reed's Pickard Collectors Book for more information on this fine period studio(P.301-304) This beautiful piece glistens just like gold nuggets do in the sunshine though I have no proof that the paint actually contains pure gold. Very Pretty yellow color with gold hand painted floral design. The sugar bowl stands 5" tall with the lid and 6.5" with handles wide. The creamer is just over 4.5" tall and 4.5" wide from handle to spout. I do not know what origin these pieces are from. After very close inspection of these pieces there are a few places of damage. The rim of the sugar bowl has a very small chip, and just below that on the same side there is a little flaking of yellow paint. Yellowing on the inside. No cracks on either pieces. We are pleased to offer this Lovely Antique Hand Painted Cream& Sugar Set by Z.S. Co. Bavaria. The Bavarian(Germany) Zeh. Scherzer& Co. used Z. S. Co. as maker mark between 1880 to the early 1910, they specialized in fine porcelain and after several ownership changes went out of business in 1992. This set is hand painted with a light: green, pink, blue, yellow pastels colors. Both pieces marked on bottom: Z.S.Co BAVARIA. Both are in excellent condition. No damage or wear of any kind. Antique Imperial PSL Austria Porcelain Creamer & Sugar Hand Painted Signed Flora
Antique Hand Painted Porcelain Creamer& Sugar Set. Click picture to enlarge This is an antique Implerial PSL Austria creamer and sugar set. They have been hand painted and the sugar bowl is signed(H.L.17) This was most likely made somewhere between 1914 and 1918. The pieces have a hand painted delicate pink rose design around the sides. There is a gold line that winds around the pattern in an Art Deco fashion. The handles have rippled edges; like a flowing ribbon. They are heavily finished in gold. Which extends to the edges of each piece. The top half is white and the bottom has a pale bluish wash to it. They are both in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, paint or gold finish loss. The sugar bowl is 5" across handle to handle and 2 1/2" tall and the creamer is 4 1/2" wide x 2 3/4" tall.
