This is one of the many collectibles I am selling from my husband's deceased wife and her mother's estate. Nelson McCoy Greenware Bird with Cherries Cider Pitcher
This very old Nelson McCoy unmarked pitcher is done in the Bird and Cherries pattern. It is a small cider pitcher measuring about 5 1/4" tall. It is in very nice condition. What appears to be chips in the photos are not chips but light reflection. This pitcher has the usual manufacturing flaws common to early pieces. There is one spot near the handle that can be seen in the picture. I'm not sure if it is a flake or a manufacturing flaw. Other than that and some crazing. The pitcher is in great condition and is a nice display item. I am downsizing and will be adding more items as I come across them. Please check back. Farnham Pottery whose wares were sold at Liberty of London and Heals. This most attractive owl jug is an example of one of their most popular ranges and they produced this particular design in several sizes- this one is 6 1/2 inches high. The jug has a beautiful lustrous green lead glaze over a brown earthenware body. It has sgraffito work to define the wings and feathers around the eyes. Allen designed for them up intil the 1940s. The jug is in good order with a small chip to the end of the beak. Two tiny glaze chips to the edge of the neck rim and a tiny glaze tear at the base towards the handle. Unusal three tier design on the inside cavetto, lotus flower in the centre well. Wide incised combed striations on the outside cavetto. Note the rarer scalloped rim on this dish. Measures approx. 8.5 cm high and 26.5 cm wide across the top rim. Weight 1.52kg. Date Mid 15thC. With a brilliant green glaze which is darker in some places than in others. This flask is a late Moravian reproduction made for MESDA(Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts) using techniques similar to those used for the originals in Salem North Carolina in the early 1800s. The original flask was probably meant for an advertising giveaway. Pottery flasks and ceramic bottles were popular during the 19th Century and they came in every imaginable shape- fish and lobster were amusing and popular forms. This flask was made using early methods and technologies. Hand molded and hand decorated with a bright green majolica type glaze. The flask measures ... more6" long, 2" thick, and 3 1/2" across its widest point. It is marked with an impressed numeral 1980, possibly a design number or the year made, as well as an impressed door mark signifying MESDA or the Moravian Pottery. Though a reproduction of an early original, the flask is highly collectible as an outstanding example of American studio pottery adhering to the techniques and standards of the earliest potters. Lovely vintage set of McCoy Girl with a Watering Can greenware bowls marked#166 USA on the bottom. Probably date from the 1920's. The largest bowl measures 8 inches across and 4 1/2 inches tall. There are several small chips on the outside edge of this bowl. The middle bowl measures 7 inches across and 4 inches tall. There are no chips on this bowl. The smallest bowl has a chip on the lower rim as shown in one of the pictures. This bowl measures 6 inches across and 3 1/2 inches tall. All of the bowl show very fine crazing in the glaze which is part of the antique quality of the items. There are several glazing imperfections here and there but are lovely to display and useful in the kitchen. McCoy made a heavy utilitarian quality pottery and these have survived many years of use. no pets- no smoke Good luck bidding!
