The cake plate does have some tarnish that I did not try to clean fearing it mat hurt it's collect-ability. I'm down scaling to an apartment and must let some of my treasures go. Up for auction is an Antique R. Delinieres(and P. Guery) and Company(D& Co. of the La Taupiniere Porcelain Factory on Rue Albert Thomas. Limoges France(1860 to 1900) Hand Painted Open Sugar Bowl and Hand Painted Creamer(Cream Pitcher) Set with a Floral Pattern Consisting of Alternating Pink Roses& Purple Violets Sharing the same Stem and Leaf Pattern over a Gloss White Glaze Application Attributed to being Decorated in Limoges, France in"Excellent Plus" to"Near-Mint Condition" Used, Circa 1894 to 1900. I first want to explain that in the United States from the 1870s up until World War Two the biggest hobby in this country was painting on porcelain. You had amateur painters. Professional painters, professional porcelain decorating and painting studios and some American poreclain potteries had their own decorating ... moredepartments. One crucial piece of knowledege you kneed to know is that the vast majority of this porcelain artwork done by American porcelain artists was painted on blank white porcelain imported in from other countries, You had French Limoges porcelain, Bavarian porcelain(and it was its own state from 1806 to 1918) German porcelain, Austrian-Bohemian porcelain and some came from Nippon(which is Japan) and other Far East Asian countries. The reason for this was the United States was still in its infancy when it came to porcelain production and the imported porcelain blanks were much less expensive then our own American porcelain blanks in most cases. Because of this a common mistake is to attribute antique American painted porcelain as to being painted in the country on the backstamp. There was a law institued in 1891 by the United States requiring all goods imported into the U.S.A. to have the country of origin on it somewhere. Therefore we have an abundance of antique hand painted porcelain by Americans on blanks marked from another country. This set came from a local estate sale that featured numerous fine china collectibles. The set is in excellent shape with no chips. Scratches, cracks, or crazing that I can see. The gold shows virtually no wear and the only imperfection that I can find is a small dark spot on the gold lid of the sugar bowl that can be seen in the third picture. It is hand signed in gold on the bottom of each piece as can be seen in the fourth picture. The set displays very well. For your consideration is a rarely seen creamer and sugar set done in a combination of Platinum and Gold Lusterware. The outside and handles are a bright shiny platinum silver and the interior is an antique gold. The handles on both pieces resemble a piece of coral. This set has a light. Fine porcelain feel to it, very similar to Belleek china. To achieve the platinum silver and gold look it was necessary to chemically dissolve the platinum and gold and then apply them. Usually with a brush, to the pieces prior to the final firing. It is rare to find the platinum finish in combination with the gold finish due to the high cost of both materials. The creamer measures 3-1/4” inches in diameter from the spout to the handle and stands 3-1/2” tall. The sugar measures 3-3/4” in diameter and is 3” tall to the top of the handle. There are no identification ... moremarks on the bottom of either piece. There were many companies making Lusterware during the time period of the late 1800’s into the early 1900’s and most of them did not mark their wares. Because of the delicate feel of the porcelain and the quality of glazing they appear to be English in origin and would be consistent with that time period. The condition is excellent. There are no chips. Cracks, repairs or staining. There are signs of age related wear to both pieces; minimal on the sugar and a little more on the creamer. Wilkens& Sohne and made between 1890-1920. The set is beautifully decorated with wonderful shell and scroll work decorations with swirled ribbing. In a nice Rococco style. Each piece has a wonderful cast silver conch shell finial. The handles are decorated with acanthus leaf decorations. The inside of the creamer and sugar box have a nice gold wash. The set includes: 1 tall coffee or teapot- 6 1/2 inches from handle to front& 10 1/8 inches tall 1 lidded creamer or milk pitcher- 4 3/8 inches from handle to front& 5 7/8 inches tall 1 hinged covered sugar bowl in the form of an antique sugar box- ... more5 3/8 by 4 1/2 inches& 4 5/8 inches tall Each piece is marked on the underside with 800 for the silver purity. Very Beautiful Hand Painted Oriental Lidded Sugar Bowl and Creamer! The sugar bowl is about 4 1/2" x 6" and the creamer 3" x 5" They are a Very nice size and in excellent condition. If you look at picture 5 around the rim on the bottom of both of them is a little rough. They aren't really chipped or cracked. It kind of feels like the glazing is gone on that part from years of use.
