Drawers are Dove Tailed. inside is very solid thick wood. top has 14 inch glass windows on each side and is 30 inches tall. This is a 2 pc and top will come off with just a few bolts. Very minor and small area wear the finish has chipped off. I will answer any questions you may have. Just looking at it is an awe inspiring sight. Even with the original bun feet missing it measures 94" wide x 90" tall x 28" deep. It does show from wear for its age. Which we have been told is late 19th century to early 20th century. It comes apart into 3 large pieces, to make easier to move. It has a large cabinet base with four elaborately carved base relief paneled doors ornamented with elaborate classical& mythical figures. The base has concealed drawers whose fronts are carved with panels of dolphin like figures. Columns with foliate capitals are set across the front, surmounted by drawers with carved faces or masks flanked with wings or draperies. ... moreLarger columns support a deep cornice fronted with carved panels ornamented with reclining nude figures. A solid paneled backboard is set with a bracket shelf with a carved apron and supports. Handmade, probably Continental origin, possibly German or Belgian. Characteristics of walnut. Antique Sideboard Buffet Table German Made 1939 STUNNING!!!!!!
For sale is a very. Very nice German-made Sideboard from 1939. It features hand-carved rosettes and clovers. Fairly certain the wood is maple. It is not light in weight, but at some point in the 1970s-1980s it was modified with 6 castors. They work marvelously. It is as smooth as butter to move, not kidding. I was able to move this out of the storage unit myself for the photos, and with very little effort. We know the date of manufacture because of the inspection tag still present under one of the two original drawers. It bears the date of May 26th 1939. We couldn't derive much information from the other tag except to say the handwritten script is also German. It might be a tag applied during the shipping from Germany to America whenever that occurred. The wing side doors are marvelously designed and balanced perfectly on their hinges ... morefor smooth/easy opening. They command a striking pose when opened for work. Originally this piece was likely used for the purpose for which it was intended. But at some point in the 1980s-1990s it was modified for use in a bedroom( we are guessing) As the lower-middle four drawers are a newer upgrade of style drawers. Our guess of bedroom use also stems from lack of wear typical of dinnerware storage and silverware storage in the drawers. There are none of the scratches, spills, dings and abrasions commonly seen in sideboards and buffets. All of the drawers( 6 total) are in excellent condition and are fully functional. The top surface is in very good condition. But not perfect. A few dings here, a few scratches there, but nothing major. A bit of regular furniture polish does wonders as shown by the photos where one photo taken from the right side angle of the table before polishing( Photo#3) Compares to the remaining photos after polishing. The back side has the type of wear commensurate with being pushed/scraped against the countless walls and buildings it has likely been.
