Of the period: brave modernist design, sharp lines, angles galore and heaps of asymmetry. It's heavily influenced by some of the great modernist pieces that were coming out of Denmark at that time. ... moreAnd it's made from a beautiful teak veneer, although the colour is so nice it is somewhat like rosewood. The legs are of solid beech. The drawer handles are integral and recessed. Beautiful. It's a practical piece too. With a good sized storage space beneath the hinged lid and two slide-out drawers. It even comes complete with the original tray which sits on runners in the main compartment. Everything has been lined with removable orange felt by the careful previous owner. This is a very genuine little piece having been in full use. As intended, until just recently(and if you click on my other listings you will see that I am selling all of the contents- vintage cotton reels and the like- separately) Today it could of course be used as originally intended. I am selling a gorgeous antique sideboard/ dresser! Fantastic item in great condition! The unit used to be a dressing table with a mirror sitting on the top which I do have(read on) Hence the cut outs and two tiny wholes on the top! I am unsure of the wood. I think its oak but I am unsure! Decorative designs and trim on the door and draw fronts, with barley twist front legs. With two cupboards(one with shelf) and two deep draws the sideboard has plenty of storage. As I mentioned before. We are pleased to offer this beautiful. Art Deco era, Jacobean style, antique walnut sideboard, buffet or sofa/entry table. This exceptionally nice piece features an abundance of ornate detailing. The front legs are substantial and feature turned and block wood. The turned, spherical sections have carved design. The pattern is made prominent by the use of darker stain in the crevices of the carving. The back legs are more streamlined and have a carved, linear center. The darker stain is again used to contrast the pattern. A sleek stretcher extends between each leg. The cabinet face is quite striking. There are 2 doors, both with inset panels of burled wood. The door pulls are wood as well. In between the doors is a large, carved acanthus leaf detail. A series of small, incised stars surrounds the cabinet's top exterior edge. The bottom ... moreof the cabinet is skirted on the sides with an arched line to the skirt. The bottom front features a decorative corbel detail on each side. There are linear accents of turned wood that adorn each corner section. Cabinet also features large interior storage. The cabinet is simply beautiful. It is in incredible condition with very little evidence of age or use. There are a few, VERY MINOR, surface scratches which are barely visible and not at all distracting. The cabinet was manufactured by the Lammert's Furniture Company in St. Louis, Missouri. The cabinet is stamped"25-93" The"25" indicates that the piece was manufactured in 1925. It is in the Chippendale style with French influence. The buffet has a beautiful, double, curved front leg design on each side with carved ball and talon feet. There is a raised, acanthus leaf detail with a light cream, painted finish(original) The back legs are straight. The top of the server features the beautifully grained mahogany and is surrounded with a deeply carved, rope border that is burnished in the crevices for greater interest. Antique Sideboard Buffet Table German Made 1939 STUNNING!!!!!!
For sale is a very. Very nice German-made Sideboard from 1939. It features hand-carved rosettes and clovers. Fairly certain the wood is maple. It is not light in weight, but at some point in the 1970s-1980s it was modified with 6 castors. They work marvelously. It is as smooth as butter to move, not kidding. I was able to move this out of the storage unit myself for the photos, and with very little effort. We know the date of manufacture because of the inspection tag still present under one of the two original drawers. It bears the date of May 26th 1939. We couldn't derive much information from the other tag except to say the handwritten script is also German. It might be a tag applied during the shipping from Germany to America whenever that occurred. The wing side doors are marvelously designed and balanced perfectly on their hinges ... morefor smooth/easy opening. They command a striking pose when opened for work. Originally this piece was likely used for the purpose for which it was intended. But at some point in the 1980s-1990s it was modified for use in a bedroom( we are guessing) As the lower-middle four drawers are a newer upgrade of style drawers. Our guess of bedroom use also stems from lack of wear typical of dinnerware storage and silverware storage in the drawers. There are none of the scratches, spills, dings and abrasions commonly seen in sideboards and buffets. All of the drawers( 6 total) are in excellent condition and are fully functional. The top surface is in very good condition. But not perfect. A few dings here, a few scratches there, but nothing major. A bit of regular furniture polish does wonders as shown by the photos where one photo taken from the right side angle of the table before polishing( Photo#3) Compares to the remaining photos after polishing. The back side has the type of wear commensurate with being pushed/scraped against the countless walls and buildings it has likely been.
