Circa 1960 Mahogany with gorgeous inlays Distressing to top Locking doors and drawer Sturdy. Excellent condition, This lovely serpentine sideboard was originally crafted in England around 1960. The wood is a brilliant mahogany which has developed a rich patina over the years. It boasts a lovely grain with some very impressive lighter tones. The mahogany is also complimented by satinwood string inlay. Mahogany cross banding, and a Georgian style satinwood fan inlay. These inlays are present on the top, cabinet doors and upper drawer. The central inlay on the top is by far the most impressive. Each of the cabinets of this sideboard features working locks and the right cabinet has a removable wooden shelf. The upper central drawer also has a working lock. And the piece comes with one key. The hardware on the drawer and cabinets is solid brass that also goes with the mahogany quite well. The six legs of this sideboard are all square and tapered, and have spade feet. Overall. The condition of this piece is excellent. There are slight, dark marks to the top which appear to be intentional distressing done by the maker. The beautify of the mahogany wood combined with the serpentine shape and well used inlay is what really draws your eye, making this sideboard an excellent piece for an area where you want people to really see it. For example it would work well not only in a dining room, but also in a foyer, or often traveled hallway. This is a charming diminutive bow front brandy server. The server is 43 inches wide. 34 inches high and 18 ¼ inches deep. It is made of mahogany and has string inlay. The secondary wood is chestnut. It is Federal in style but dates to around 1900. There are 3 drawers over 4 doors. The back of the drawers are dovetailed but the fronts are not due to the curved shapes of the drawer fronts. It is in very good condition. There is a spot on the trim on the left center door that has some a little bit of damage. There is a chip on the right door across from the damage. The wonderful mahogany has a splendid grain and beautiful color. Satinwood inlays and mahogany cross bands provide subtle. But necessary contrast around the doors, drawers, and top. Further enhancing the beauty of this sideboard are fluted details between the drawers and doors and down the legs. The legs themselves are tapered and end in spade feet. The cabinet doors stay closed with a spring latch and the drawers slide smoothly on wooden runners. The brass ring pulls are in great shape and are the right proportion for this size buffet. The only blemish on this bow front sideboard is a small separation in the top on the right hand side. We have pictured this in the photos. I am not sure if this is Edwardian or much later from the 1950's or 1960's, I suspect the latter. It has a serpentine front and top shape& is supported on six slender legs. Four at the front, two at the back. The top is cross-banded and has tramline edging. It has inlaid detailing around the top and the cupboard and drawer fronts. The sideboard consists of two central drawers flanked on either side by a single-door cupboard. Each with a removable wooden shelf inside. The drawers and doors retain their original brass handles and locks. No key. The sideboard is supported on six elegant long tapering legs. Hand Crafted Antique Mahogany Server & Liquor Cabinet
This furniture item was hand constructed by my great-great-great grand father. Amasa Gleason who lived in Half Moon Township- near Syracuse, New York. The purpose of its design was to hide the spirits within from prying eyes of children and adults who might frequent the family home and might disapprove of his intemperate habit of keeping spirits in his home for even infrequent consumption. Being a stanch Methodist community, this would be frowned upon. The WCTU would also have a few comments on this. This cabinet has been passed down to me. A member of the 13th generation of the Gleason family in America. I can trace the lineage of it from Amasa to his son George, to his son Howard, to his son Delbert, to his son Allyn, to his son(me) Amasa"removed" from Half Moon Township to Winona, Minnesota, and became a dairy farmer. His grandson(my ... moregrandfather) Delbert, had a dairy in Ridgeway, Minnesota, just outside Winona. He also had an orchestra: Del Gleason and his Orchestra, playing modern and old time music; featuring Della Newman and her Accordian" ran the banner. draft a sea-story like that one up, will ya- I have the original poster! There's the provinence of this cabinet and it's origin. It measures 33.5" high; 25.5" wide. And 16.5" deep. It has cut-outs on the shelves for various shapes and sizes of cordials and stemware, which are included. Most of them do not match the cut-outs or each other, but a few of them do. There is ample room for storage of bottles and decanters throughout the two levels of the cabinet. A simply gorgeous late Chippendale style diminutive serpentine sideboard server/ buffet circa 1910. This is an extremely high end custom made centennial reproduction with 100 years of age. Fully veneered in bookmatched crotch mahogany and inlaid with shells and tulips; with contrasting satinwood edgebanding. It has always been kept indoors. There is absolutely no fading of the rich wood colors. It is approximately 33 inches high. 18 3/4 inches deep, and 42 inches wide, and is in excellent overall condition with the original finish intact. As you can see in the pictures a hot pan was placed on the right side at some time in the past and wrinkled the finish before being quickly removed. I would recommend the top only be refinished. We are pleased to offer this exquisite. Early 20th century, buffet/sideboard or grand entry table. This lovely piece features Mahogany veneer with exotic, eye catching, grain pattern. It is in the Chippendale style with French influence. The buffet has a beautiful, double, curved front leg design on each side with carved ball and talon feet. There is a raised, acanthus leaf detail with a light cream, painted finish(original) The back legs are straight. The top of the server features the beautifully grained mahogany and is surrounded with a deeply carved, rope border that is burnished in the crevices for greater interest. The server is quite functional and there is ample storage. There is a single, long top drawer that runs the width of the server. A deeper and narrower drawer is located in the center of the buffet, just under the upper drawer. ... moreThis drawer is divided into 3 compartments. This drawer is flanked with deep storage compartments housed behind doors. All of the drawers are dovetail construction and the interior of the drawers, as well as the door compartments, are finished with mahogany veneer. The hardware(pulls and knobs) are brass. This elegant buffet was manufactured by John C. Raab. This company was in business from 1903 to 1920 and operated out of Grand Rapids. Michigan. The company was known as a"fine" furniture maker and made upper end pieces. The company was purchased in 1920 and later became Luce Furniture. The original manufacturer's sticker is present. The buffet is in extremely nice condition for its age with only minor evidence of age or use. There are very minor scuffs and some very light scratches. But nothing severe or distracting. The painted acanthus details have surface cracks which are very normal for this type of finish in pieces of this age. A very fine antique. Circa 1910, Edwardian Sheraton style inlay solid mahogany server. The backspash has inlay classical fruited urn with ribboned bellflower garlands. The front legs have inlay ribboned trailing flower, with fan inlay by leg and skirt. Drawers have mahogany interiors. Original brass pulls with patina. Server measures 3'7" 43" tall by 3'8" 44" wide by 1'8" 20" deep. Excellent condition: without chips or cracks, original unworn finish, top without ring spots, all inlays present. One drawer interior with ink stain.
