First in my grandma's house ... morewhile growing up and then in my own home for about the past 30 years. I was told that it was custom-made and that it is one-of-a-kind. I would describe the style as subtle art deco. I have used it as a sideboard/credenza/buffet/chest as well as storage in an office, where it received constant compliments. It is wonderfully well-made in a very subtle art deco/craftsman/eclectic design that will actually work well with and complement many styles of furniture, including mid-century modern, arts& crafts, Eames era, and craftsman. I have been told by a carpenter with knowledge of wood, that it is a fine grade of teak, with beautiful dovetailing and separations between the drawer compartments and cabinet sections. One of the two side drawers is lined with green felt and partitioned to accommodate serving pieces or silverware. On each side, under the small top drawers, is a door behind which is open storage with two levels. In the center are three drawers, one shallower drawer at the top and two deeper drawers below. It is designed so that the center section with the drawers is gracefully indented between a slightly wider section on each end, with the drawers and open storage. The corners solid wood top are gracefully rounded, as is the place where the center section curves out to meet the wider sides. The hardware is beautifully simple and well designed. It is in very good to excellent vintage/antique condition. With smoothly sliding drawers and very little in the way of surface cosmetic concerns. All the joints are. Dimensions: Width is 62-1/2 inches. The two outer sections are 21 inches deep. The center section is 19-1/2 inches deep. Height is 33-3/4 inches. Inside the doors. Made in England, Circa 1940, Oak, Beveled mirror, Locking cabinets, Hand cut dovetails, Brass pulls, Minor wear throughout, Sturdy. Good overall condition, This quaint English oak sideboard was made around 1940 and is the perfect size for a variety of places in the home. The shaped back splash has a beveled mirror and the cabinet doors are decorated with carvings in the outside upper corners. The drawers slide in and out easily and the cabinet doors both lock with included key. The inside of the right drawer used to have ... moregreen felt that was partially removed. Leaving the inside of the drawer with a green tinge(see picture) There is normal wear throughout in the form of tiny dings here and there, but overall this buffet is in very good condition and quite sturdy. The drawers are made with hand cut dovetails which gives you an idea of the high level of craftsmanship that went into this sideboard. The sideboard is 36" tall to the counter and 46.5" tall to the top of the back splash. Plenty of storage space in this sideboard! The cabinet doors both lock. These carved decorations adorn the outside upper corners of the doors. Each drawer has two solid brass pulls. The drawers are made with hand cut dovetails. A fabulous solid piece with some wonderful detailing. The painted woodwork has been distressed in areas of natural wear this adds an extra dimension to the piece and highlights the pieces unique features. It has then been finished with natural wax to increase durability. The piece is a single large cupboard with a single shelf and double door opening. On the right side on the inside is a chunky drawer that has been divided into individual sections to store cutlery. What I have here is an outstanding Empire style tiger oak sideboard/ buffet circa 1900 with a tag from Picture Rocks. PA. The tag(photo shown) indicates the Burrows Bros. Co. Ltd. as the manufacturer. A fellow named Amos Burrows started the furniture co. in Lycoming County. Pennsylvania in 1856 and the enterprise was sold in 1939. This one is from the Burrow's Brothers unique"Roller Guide Line. Two tiny wooden wheels hold each drawer in place and enable smooth gliding back and forth. Some information on the manufacturer's history can be found on the internet at usgennet.org/usa/pa/county/lycoming/history/Chapter-31.html There are Claw feet in the front and straight legs in the back. All legs have the original wooden rollers for easily moving this piece around. The overall dimensions are 48" W x 22 1/2" D x 61 1/2" ... moreH. The height to the first level is 39" The height to the second level is 56 1/2" The two levels are connected by columns. The mirror is the original beveled mirror with the dimensions 37"W x 13"H. It has 2 drawers on top that are each 20 1/2" long. There is 1 long drawer in the middle of the piece that is 42" long. At the botto m are 2 doors w/ post in-between. There is a large open storage area behind these doors. The drawers and doors have beautiful decorative brass knobs as pulls(photo shown) Some minor imperfections- as shown in pictures- are: varnish spot(top left side) slight warpage of veneer in one spot(top right ride) and two spots of discoloration in mirror The 2 drawers on top. The long drawer in the middle, and the two bottom doors, all have keyholes for locking, but no key. Overall condition is very good. Considering its age. We've really cared for this piece. It needs to be stripped and refinished. It is very sturdy. I see a line on each side. A small piece of wood missing between the 2 small drawers and the top is a little loose. When I got this piece the leg was not attached. I sanded it and nailed it into place. There was no break there. I also waxed the doors and drawers so everything opens and closes nicely. Oak Sideboard Buffet, Heavily Carved, European French Country
First off. We are not furniture dealers. This beautiful antique piece has graced our home for over 20 years. Time goes by and we are downsizing, so it's important to us that this set end up with someone who will appreciate its beauty and respect its workmanship as much as we do. We bought this set as a favor to a friend. We do not know how old it is or where it was manufactured. Dealers selling similar pieces on Ebay have used the description Vintage French Country. What we do know is that this piece is very well built. It's all tongue and groove. The only hardwareare the hinges. Handles and lock mechanisms and those are all solid brass. We also have a very decorative brass key that fit all the locks. This piece is solid oak with a medium finish. The parquet top on the sideboard is solid. Not veneer. The piece is heavily carved with ... moregorgeous detail. The legs are curved with carved detail. Pictures do not do this piece justice. The flaws mentioned are mostly hardly noticeable. We mention the bumps and bruises so that somebody is not expecting a flawless set. However we highly encourage personal inspection of these items to see exactly for Sideboard Buffet 94 1/4" long. 23 1/8 deep, 38 1/2" tall, separate carved back piece 9" high. The top of the sideboard is solid parquet. There are 4 lockable solid wood doors. Each with wonderful grain and carving. There are removable and adjustable shelves. The shelves are adjusted by wooden slats placed into wooden slots. There are two lockable drawers in the middle. Inside the left door there are two more drawers, on for flatware and one that we have never been able to open. Front legs are curved and beautifully carved. The backing of the sideboard appears to be the same solid wood with the same beautiful grain as the door panels. One of the backing panels came out of its grooves. It is intact with no damage. English sideboard in tiger oak. Jacobean style. Circa 1920. Measurements: 54" long x 18 1/2" deep. Panelled back is 7 1/2" high. Total height is 44" There are 4 metal pear drop pulls on the 2 panelled dovetailed drawers- not original. The cupboards. However, have the original pulls with lock system. No key. Lots of decoration. The legs are barley twist and the barley twist continues on both sides of the upper portion of the cupboards. The top panel is pegged into the sideboard and could be removed. If desired, for traveling and then glued solidly in when this piece is in its final position. The feet are bulbous with a stretch system between. There is a minor separation along a seam on the right side of the cupboard. This is a beautiful piece that offers wonderful storage with its large drawers and cabinets and features its original original brass hardware. Original mirror back and its old original finish with period dove-tailed joinery on the drawers. This sideboard measures 59 1/2 inches in height to the top of the gallery at the back. Quarter Sawn Mission Oak Buffet Sideboard with Mirror/shelf
I love this piece but have no room for it. Its very clean. Has been refinished, but the restoration was well done. The mirror is original with some shadowing.
