The wonderful mahogany has a splendid grain and beautiful color. Satinwood inlays and mahogany cross bands provide subtle. But necessary contrast around the doors, drawers, and top. Further enhancing the beauty of this sideboard are fluted details between the drawers and doors and down the legs. The legs themselves are tapered and end in spade feet. The cabinet doors stay closed with a spring latch and the drawers slide smoothly on wooden runners. The brass ring pulls are in great shape and are the right proportion for this size buffet. The only blemish on this bow front sideboard is a small separation in the top on the right hand side. We have pictured this in the photos. MAHOGANY SEPERTINED FRONTED SIDEBOARD WITH SIX LEGS For sale a beautiful antique Georgian style mahogany sideboard. I am not sure if this is Edwardian or much later from the 1950's or 1960's, I suspect the latter. It has a serpentine front and top shape& is supported on six slender legs. Four at the front, two at the back. The top is cross-banded and has tramline edging. It has inlaid detailing around the top and the cupboard and drawer fronts. The sideboard consists of two central drawers flanked on either side by a single-door cupboard. Each with a removable wooden shelf inside. The drawers and doors retain their original brass handles and locks. No key. The sideboard is supported on six elegant long tapering legs. Maryland, 20th Century Item# 412QXR08S This is an exquisite reproduction sideboard by the Potthast Brothers furniture firm. Established in the mid 19th century and renowned for their exceptional quality and benchmade construction. This is a very fine example, quite angular with clean undistracted lines. A single drawer in the center retains it's original stamped brass bail pulls, opening to reveal a felt upholstered interior(remaining in excellent condition) and the Potthast branding. The drawer is hand dovetailed along the front and back corners, the bottom of the drawer machine chamfered along the edges and set in grooves with small supporting blocks. Beneath the drawer are a pair of cupboard doors, opening to reveal a shelved interior. This piece has a rubbed wood finish. No lacquer on this one, it is beautiful wood, but it is not shiny. Vintage Federal American Style Sideboard Buffet made of Mahogany with Inlay and a Serpentine Front. The sideboard has many inlay designs including the frames around the drawers and doors. Corner inlay on the doors, a center oval, and inlay up and down the front legs. There is raised moulding that encases the oval inlay pattern(1 strip of moulding is missing)pictured) Each side has 1 cabinet and 1 drawer with 1 large partitioned and felt lined drawer in the center. The drawer and cabinet fronts covered in a crotch mahogany. Each side with 3 tapered legs. Some chips to the veneer throughout. The whole front has a beautifully curved serpentine design creating exquisite curved wood features. The top edge mimics the curves and corners of the beveled front creating a uniquely shaped top. There is some wear to the top(dents. Surface scratches, etc) ... morewear relative to age and use. The perfect piece for any dining room. Knechtels Mahogany Buffet, Sideboard (Hepplewhite Style), mid century
This piece has moved many times and the top and legs do need to be refinished as a few nicks. But a lovely design. Our parents kept their sterling silver.Crystal serving dishes and linens in it. Knechtels is out of Hanover, Ontario. Knechtels Ltd was formed in the mid 1930's but I have no idea how Blowey Henry is connected to it. The latter was established in Alberta in 1906. Pretty certain this belonged to my grandparents who passed when I was very young but I do remember it- always in our dining rooms. 20 inches deep)
