THANK YOU. Here is a stunning and very desirable approximately 150 year old antique Japanese small Choba tansu. Or merchant's chest, dating from the Meiji Era around the mid to late 1800's, featuring a lock bar in the center and classical safe compartment at the bottom right. It boasts a natural light colour with a rich honey patina, beautifully shaped hand forged iron hardware, wood peg construction and 8 drawers of various sizes that provide versatile storage options including a full width drawer at the top. It is in excellent overall condition for it's age. But has a little lock issue: as there is no key and the top drawer lock is in the closed position with the drawer open it will not shut all the way. The safe compartment has a tendency to swing open by itself since there is no key to lock it. The lock issue does NOT affect the lock bar which slides in and out of place properly. Please read the description and examine the photos for more details on the condition. Locksmiths and larger antique dealers will own sets of multiple keys to fit a broad range of locks so you should be able to get the drawer unlocked easily enough so it slides into place. With a little patience you could also find an antique key that fits right here on ebay(I can recommend a seller who regularly stocks this type of item) Other small issues worth noting are a small repair in the bottom corner of the smallest drawer just above the safe compartment. The larger top drawer is stiff to open and close due to age and needs a tweak, and one corner plate in the back is bent out of shape. Given it's age there is some wearing off of the blackening of a few small spots of the iron, and a couple of small nails are missing. Up for bid is gorgeous antique professionally hand carved 3 panel walnut French screen/ room divider only. It is a 3 screen that used to have hinges but these were lost over the years& it has a thin coat of yellow paint. I've seen allot of French carved screens claiming to have the best carvings but they were not the crisp clean quality detail& quality workmanship as this one has when you look up close; even the flowers are great. As shown it was put together in sections or pieces& one part of front middle section near top needs re-glued& has a little chip of wood missing. I'm pressing together in picture to show what it will look like ... morewhen glued& you can see what it looks like in pics not pressed together. It still has it's original panel inserts that you attach fabric to& then fit into back side of screen sections& attach with thin little tacks or nails. These fabric insert pieces show quite a bit of wear from changing fabrics over the years& are free to winning buyer if interested. I would ly screen down& trace outline to make new inserts or use original inserts as a template to make new ones maybe even out of plexiglass? For as old as screen is it only has a few chipped areas mostly where fabric sections fit inside back. 1 little cracked spot on base& some where hinges attach as pictured. There is what looks like glue over& around screw holes where hinges attach. The carvings are as fancy at the bottom as they are at the top where usually it's just the top that's fancy. This beauty was my mothers& I have been storing it for years& want to find a home where it will be loved& displayed. Tallest middle section measures aprox. 6 feet 3 1/4 inches tall. Measuring 18" long, 17" wide, and 15 1/2" tall, it's made of solid oak with a double-hinged lift-up lid and stands on 4 chubby wooden legs. It has a hardwood seat with a comfortable 9" diameter hole that rests on a wood support piece with matching hole. The bottom compartment is large enough to accommodate a chamber pot, not included with this commode. This Antique Toilet is in good vintage condition with signs of normal aging It has minor surface wear and a few stains on the lid. But can be refinished. The legs and base that hold the seat seem to be made out of mahogany. Check out how well fitted together the center multiple side wood pieces are. And just a beautiful look. Finish on the wood is still in good condition. I am not certain that the base was the original one with the wood seat component. I see other screw holes there that tell me that the pieces were not together originally and the stain on bottom of support board does not go all the way over to the mahogany column. So suspect the stool has been pieced together at some juncture. Still, a nice looking and functioning piece. The spinner adjustment still works well to adjust the height of the stool. For sale today is a restored is a stagecoach style humpback steamer trunk. The restoration of this great old humpback turned out very very nice. The pictures do not do it justice. I found 3 patent dates on the trunk. The oldest is on the keyhole of March 1869 and April 1877 and May 1870 on the lid stay which makes this awesome old humpback as much as 136 years old- a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the metal bottom is solid and the metal has been painted. There are two slats and four metal wheels on the bottom and the trunk rolls easily. The trunk has the two original hinges which are HD. Tight, fancy,work well and the lid closes well. It has 26 pieces of original polished hardware. Still has the original Star center lock which has been polished and there is no key. The mechanical latches ... moreare HD, fancy, tight, work well and there is a rising eagle embossed in the metal. There are 8 original solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The interior paper has been removed and it has the original tray. All the metal is in very good condition. the trunk has the original steam bent handles that seem to last forever. This auction is for an extremely rare very early 1900s antique lithograph three part folding Telephone Privacy Screen. These screens were primarily used in the 1900-1910 time period when the candlestick telephone was in fashion. The person using the telephone would wrap the three part screen around the telephone to provide some level of privacy during their conversation. The screen panels are made of a very hard wood or a very dense composite board material and the back is finished with a thick black"dimpled" or"stippled" coating. The highly raised flowers and leaves appear to be carved from the same material and painted in red. Green and gold colors. There are two brass hinges with four brass screws each on both sides of the center panel which attach the two side panels. This screen is in absolutely superb condition for ... moreit age with just a bit of wear on some edges and there are NO pieces missing from any of the raised flowers and leaves(Please see pictures for actual condition of all details) All dimensions are as follows: Center panel- 14" High X 6" Wide X 1/4" Thick Side panels- 12" High X 4 1/2" Wide X 1/4" Thick Weight- Approximately 2 pounds. Antique Trunk - Embossed Tin In A Flower Pattern Great Restoration!
For sale today is a very nicely restored antique humpback trunk with embossed tin and the restoration turned out very well. The embossed tin pattern is a flower pattern- see pictures. I did not find any patent dates on this trunk and based on 40 plus years restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880's to 1890's which makes this awesome old humpback as much as a 133 years old- a true antique. This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metal bottom is in good solid condition. Has had multiple coats of paint applied and retains 3 original slats. The trunk has the 3 original hinges which are heavy duty,tight and work well. There are 30 plus pieces of original polished hardware and has the original center lock with a brass keyhole which has been polished- no key. The 2 original mechanical latches remain ... moreand both do not work. A new black leather lid lifter was installed on the trunk. There are 12 solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk. The metal/tin is in very good condition. The trunk has the 4 original metal wheels on the bottom and the trunk rolls easily. Two new black leather handles were installed with new end caps.
