Just doesn't match my decor anymore. There are knicks and scratches typical of something this age. There is an area where my dog chewed on it a few times when she was a puppy. Restaining this would hide most of the blemishes. The top is in very nice condition without any deep scratches. Most of the knicks are at the bottom of the legs. Near the feet. It is fairly sturdy. But does wobble just a tiny bit. It is plenty sturdy for a plant or as an occasional table for keys. Candle, etc. Because of it's tall and narrow size. I wouldn't put a tall lamp or TV on top of it, but it should work for most any other purpose as it is. Antique early syroco lectern podium restaurant reservation book stand. This appears to be their early wares which they started around 1890. Making large items and architectural ornamentation. The work surface is walnut and the rest is early dense composition. It is not signed but syroco was the only one making items out of this material in that era. It has an early P&S socket of unusual shape as seen in picture. The cord was frayed so I cut it off. The socket comes off with a rosette on the back. The pedestal comes apart with screws to rewire it. I had it all apart and there are no issues. It is heavy and it weighs 42 pounds. It measures 43 1/2 inches to the lowest part of the work surface and 54 inches to the very top of the lamp. It also has 2 slots for cards or other items. It is all in good condition with no damage. This wonderful Antique Library Book Stand and 1939 Webster's New International Unabridged Dictionary have been in my office for many years. The book stand is made of cast iron with separate adjustable oak book holders. The cast iron is black and has an incised design along its legs.The mechanism works exceedingly well. The castor wheels roll freely and smoothly. The height of the stand is adjustable at numerous levels. Plus. The pitch and weight distribution of the oak book holders can be fully adjusted.
