I'm not really sure what this is. I think you are supposed to put hot coals in the removeable scuttle and then it will warm your feet, otherwise, I have no idea. It is made in the Macintosh style with the cartouche of flowers on one end. A magnet will stick to the base, so I'm assuming that it is copper plated tin? A magnet will not stick to the metal strap that runs around the leather part, might not be leather, can't tell if it has been replaced or not, but doesn't look as if the inside fabric has been replaced, it appears to be period.
