Rough and oxidized, the surface has a nice appeal and growing patina that is very attractive. Intricately carved of the solid, the apron is a complex swirl of foliage with intermingled vines and flowers, flanked by the robust C-scroll carved knees with florals draping amongst scattered acanthus. The legs have a fine cabriole form, tapering softly into the high acanthus ankle and scrolled french toes. Plain molding frames the solid slab of white marble, supported from beneath by an x-stretcher, such that the marble can support great weight with no difficulty. It is a very attractive painted piece for the interior designer or anyone with a Rococo or Louis XV style in their home. Typically used as a hall table, centered in a large entryway with something magnificent on top of it, this table also works well between a pair of chairs or beside a large sofa. Measurements: 36" x 36" top diameter) x 30 1/4" high Condition Report: All leg joints reglued with some glue remaining visible. Resulting in a very sturdy and stable structure. Up for sale we have a very fine Eastlake Walnut commode with rare veined marble top. The commode is in all original condition with strong sturdy construction. This piece dates from the 1880 and has all the drawers and door full working order. The wood has beautiful graining with burled wood right on the front of the drawers. The hardware is very unusual for a small piece as it has large brass backplates with lots of Victorian detail. The marble is a rare color and texture with little fossilized pieces throughout. There did used to be a back splash that was on the back of the marble. But like many of its kind it is lost. There are still some holes in the marble top that can be expertly filled and polished invisably. We will have this done if the piece does not sell on Ebay. For now we have priced it without doing this work. The piece can be ... morecleaned and waxed and used beautifully just as the marble is. The bottom commode itself need no repairs. I am proud to be offering for your consideration this antique American victorian black walnut marble top shaving stand circa 1870. This piece was just found in the attic of an old southern NH home. It's all original including finish. The marble is also original but has some damage(see photos) This shaving stand measures 16 1/2" X 19" and is in very nice condition. Made of solid black walnut with no breaks in the legs. A very nice fancy pedestal base. The drawer has original brass escutcheon and lock- pinned dovetails. This model originally had a mirror that stood on a pole through the marble top and height was adjusted from the back. Someone has filled the hole in the marble but it could easily be removed. This is a great piece but is missing its mirror, selling for less than half its value! This table was purchased by my Mom and Dad at the Phipps Estate in Old Westbury Long Island in the early 1950's. It sat in Garden City Long Island home until the late 1970's. Up for auction is a beautiful English Arts& Crafts style oak and marble top washstand with tile back splash. Circa 1899. The marble is in very good condition and is very heavy. The 10 green tiles in the back splash framed in oak are very pretty and in great condition. It was very hard to photograph the tiles and marble because of the sun and reflections. The backsplash sits loosely on the cabinet and needs to be tightened. The English oak cabinet has two traditional paneled doors with oval brass handles. There a crack inside the right door that does not show when the door is closed. The simple straight leg design is typical Arts& Crafts. The lower left leg of the cabinet is a little bowed. These are a beautiful pair of 19th Century carved gilt wood tables with Carrara Marble tops. I purchased these at an antique store in San Francisco in the 1990s. I have enjoyed them for years but we are down-sizing and I can't fit them into our new house. The Carrara Marble is in excellent condition with amazing veining(that is how you can tell how old it is!
