This wonderful chest exhibits all the fine quality and beauty characteristic of Georgian furniture. The mahogany, for instance, remains as rich and striking as ever, while the excellent choice in solid brass pulls compliment beautifully with the wood. They are of a classic round design with ring handles. Each drawer has a lock but no key is present. The two over two drawer size is perfect to use as a nightstand, bedroom chest, foyer piece, or at the end of a hall. The drawers work easily and each is constructed with hand cut dovetails. You can also see on the top where the sides and top are joined with hand cut dovetails, a sign of authenticity and quality. Based on 40 years experience restoring trunks I would date this tool chest to the late 1800's to early 1900's which makes this trunk a 100 plus years old- a true antique. This trunk/chest was structurally sound when the restoration started and the wood bottom is in good solid condition. Has had multiple coats of clear applied. The trunk has the two original hinges which are heavy duty, tight and work well. The interior has been removed. Two metal handles were installed on the tool chest. The lid closes well. This is a beautiful sewing chest made be Cowan in the early 1900's. it originally had legs but those are gone but it still sits sturdy on any table. It has dovetail in all drawers and 2 compartments that open on both sides. Made of solid Mahogany and measures 27 1/2" wide. 14" deep and 18" tall. Has original wooden knobs. Set includes a chest of drawers(36" W x 19" D x 52" H) Nightstand/side table(22" W x 14" D x 23" H) and a king headboard(81" W x 48" H) Color is white laquer with gold and mother of pearl inlaid pieces. This is a great heavy solid wood set. Both chests have a piece of plexiglass for the tops, they were cut a little larger to prevent dings on the top sides. We aquired this set in an estate that we purchased the contents of so I do not know the exact age or the maker. All inlaid pieces are attached and I did not see any broken pieces on any. As with all vintage pieces it is in used condition and does have a few minor dings in the paint but could be easily fixed and may have a few minor scratches but only surface. The ... morebiggest flaw is on the nightstand, where the plexiglass sits on top a little of the gold has been transferred on it off of the top. Again this is minor and when the plexiglass is on its barely noticable.
