I have this very nice 100 yr old block for sale here. She was in bad shape when I got her. After many hours she's like new and ready to go another 100 years. I don't have exact dimensions in front of me but you can see that she is quite large. She weighs in at 275 lbs. Her history is vague. I got her from a woman in San Francisco who said it came with the house years ago when her mom bought it. There is no branding or clues as to its maker. Its a good height for cooking. Click here for more of my auctions Additional pictures provided upon request Description: This was one of a pair of butcher blocks which came out of a chinese restaurant. So you know it was built for heavy chopping! This block measures 30" x 30" and is 16.5" deep. It is just about 35" tall from the floor. It must have been commercially produced as it bears the serial number"4756" but has no other distinquishing marks. We assume that it is some variety of maple but don't for sure. The top has some superficial blemishes and cracks but none of them impact the functionality of the piece. We refinished the top of this butcher block with a belt sander, ... moreusing increasingly finer grades which gives you a very soft finish. After that we oiled it down with a conditioner specially formulated for butcher blocks. All four legs can be removed. Very sturdy. Quite heavy; we estimate somewhere between 300 and 400 lbs. We're listing it as local pickup only. But if you organize your own shipping company and send them to pick it up that is fine as well. It is sitting in the garage and ready to be rolled or lifted onto a truck. This piece can be moved by 1 or 2 strong people using a strap dolly. Maple Block' wood burned branding and the paper label on the bottom. It has been well cared for with regular cleaning& oiling only with food grade mineral oil. It is 30" x 30" square and 32" tall. It makes an excellent statement piece in a gourmet kitchen. These are extremely rare and difficult to find in this condition.
