Dark English Oak Mantel with pretty wood-carving. I do not know the age or origin. I do not buy antiques for their monetary value. I buy pieces because I like them. Therefore. I really do not know details on my items(sorry, I know it makes it more difficult for others to buy them) When we were going to install this at our house. We put new oak panels on it. Very detailed, carved wooden, top to a fireplace mantel. there is so many beautiful details its hard not to absolutely love this piece! it has a couple places where there the stain has come off on both of the sides at the bottom. the mirrors have naturally antiqued themselves. there are 2 brass rods missing that attach to the top"railing" on the side sections. please ask questions about this piece. additional photos and measurements will be sent upon request. measurements: 51.25" by 62" overall. Fantastic Victorian Cherry Fireplace Mantel
Attention rehabbers. Salvage and antique collectors, if you have been looking for a spectacular Victorian fireplace mantel to finish off a Victorian parlor, dining room or bedroom, this is the piece for you. This mantel is very large and impressive and will make a statement in any room that it is placed. It stands 90" tall and 59" wide at the widest point. The fireplace opening measures 35 1/2" wide and 36 1/4" tall. Unfortunately, the beveled mirror was broken long ago but replacements are not cost prohibitive. A trend is developing of replacing the mirrors with a 2 way mirror and placing the television behind the mirror. When the TV is off, it just looks like a mirror. You get to keep your room looking period but still have your television in the room. The mantel is made of cherry, most mantels of this era are oak and ... moreoccasionally walnut. It is much harder to find one in cherry and in such fine condition. The carvings are exceptional, be sure to view all of the photos. The original makers label is on the back but very difficult to read due to the deterioration of the paper. This mantel came out of a fantastic Victorian mansion in St Louis which has fallen on hard times. I will not ship this piece but I will assist in setting up shipping, I can recommend several reasonably priced shippers.
