Rough and oxidized, the surface has a nice appeal and growing patina that is very attractive. Intricately carved of the solid, the apron is a complex swirl of foliage with intermingled vines and flowers, flanked by the robust C-scroll carved knees with florals draping amongst scattered acanthus. The legs have a fine cabriole form, tapering softly into the high acanthus ankle and scrolled french toes. Plain molding frames the solid slab of white marble, supported from beneath by an x-stretcher, such that the marble can support great weight with no difficulty. It is a very attractive painted piece for the interior designer or anyone with a Rococo or Louis XV style in their home. Typically used as a hall table, centered in a large entryway with something magnificent on top of it, this table also works well between a pair of chairs or beside a large sofa. Measurements: 36" x 36" top diameter) x 30 1/4" high Condition Report: All leg joints reglued with some glue remaining visible. Resulting in a very sturdy and stable structure. Here is a 10 x 13.25" 96 page S. Karpen& Bros. Upholstered Furniture catalog from around 1903. The catalog is not dated however the first page states that this is the 47th semi-annual edition. S. Karpen started in 1880 and assuming that they issued semi-annual catalogs each year then this one would date to 1903- if not then it is still an early 1900s printing. It shows all manner of furniture in greyscale illustrations. Each item of furniture has a brief description along with pricing for different grades of material. The condition of the catalog is rough. The front section has foxing and stains. The paper spine is missing on the top half and has remnants of tape that covered the missing part. There is water damage on the inside pages near the spine which extends about three inches up the pages and that has caused the veneer of the ... morepaper to degrade. There are some short tears; one item has been clipped out; half of one page has been torn out and there are some pencil notations on some pages. Still a good portion of the content is unaffected and it remains in acceptable collectible condition. PLEASE view my other ebay auctions.
