I have always cherished and adored this regal but simplistic Victorian shabby chic black painted circular foot stool with the adorned pillow top with peasant tapestry for a very long time. Life marches on adding to ones age as it goes. The time has come for me to downsize. This uniquely fab black linen and painted black wood foot stool-parlor ottoman stands a regal 7 inches in height(even taller when pillow top is fluffed) with a supportive stand being that of 9 inches across in diameter. I do believe from closer inspection one of the foot stools original legs has been moved to a new location-leaving behind a view of where it was at. That is what I call them-they look exactly like a salt shaker in form) The fabric is of the period of Victorian. I don’t know if it is silk or satin, it is thin from age but expected of the era from which it came. There is one small used hole located on one of the pleats and a couple of areas of rub on others. The attached pillow top displays an impressive needlepoint in a peasant design. Impressive but not over the top. Pillow stool skirt is attached as one piece. I did appear at one time one of the wooden legs had a metal medallion with an identification plaque on it. However at this time it is gone-leaving behind the circular area where it had been! I'm not really sure what this is. I think you are supposed to put hot coals in the removeable scuttle and then it will warm your feet, otherwise, I have no idea. It is made in the Macintosh style with the cartouche of flowers on one end. A magnet will stick to the base, so I'm assuming that it is copper plated tin? A magnet will not stick to the metal strap that runs around the leather part, might not be leather, can't tell if it has been replaced or not, but doesn't look as if the inside fabric has been replaced, it appears to be period. ANTIQUE TOP-OF-THE-STACK WOOD FOOTSTOOL WITH BOOT JACK CUT-OUT LEGS This very sturdy primitive pine wood footstool was recently acquired from an estate in Hanover County. Virginia. It measures 10-1/2" long x 4-3/4" wide x 6-1/4" tall. It features small dimensions noted above. Boot jack cut-out legs that are attached to the top with heavily oxidized nails, and double 2" deep aprons. This old stool shows wear in all the right places including missing slivers of wood and tight surface separations. But remains in very good structural condition. The legs are tight to the top, and it sits level on any flat surface. Traces of old green paint can be seen under the top. A nice old stool with a unique size and great form! It dates. I believe, to the 1800s. It measures 9 x 15 x 9 inches tall. The maker's skill is evident in the tight-fitting mortise joints. Notice the wood wedges in the end of each tenon which make the joints super strong. The stool weighs 4 1/2 pounds and is in excellent condition with a beautiful old-wood patina.
