The man appears to be an elder. As he has a long beard. The bronze has absolutely amazing patina and has started to green in places. This piece was found in an estate auction in which the man had hundreds of pieces of African art, all museum quality! This bronze also includes a specially made stand which fits around the man's abdomen and his feet rest on a 1 inch black painted wood block for 360 degree viewing! Here is a large and graceful bronze statue of a grazing antelope. This elegant figure is 14” 35.5cm) long. 8 1/2” 21.5cm) high, 2 1/2” 6.3cm) wide. It was cast in the second quarter of the twentieth century, collected in the 1940's in Ouagadougou, Upper Volta, West Africa and acquired by the seller at a major New York City Gallery in 1976. The antelope is frequently represented in Bobo mask-making and statues; this large and fecund animal is believed to incarnate the powerful forces of fertility and growth. The"Lost-Wax" process was used to cast this calm and peaceful figure. First. The statue was carefully modeled in wax, then covered with a clay mold with one or more channels into which molten metal was poured, evaporating and replacing the wax. Here a very engaged musician plays the bara. This style of figure is typical of the area of Ouagadougou; bronzes of this type and quality were made around about the mid 20th century. The musician measures 30 cm(12" high. 15,5 cm(6" deep, 8 cm(3 1/4" wide. This piece has been cast using the old technique of lost wax, whereby a wax model is hand-shaped, then surrounded by a mold of clay; molten bronze is poured into the cavity containing the wax figure, the wax liquefies and drains out leaving the metal piece. For Auction Horse and Rider Bronze Statue- A. Style and motif suggest this was produced by the Tikar tribe of Cameroun. Nigeria's neighbor to the east, in West Africa. The Horse is free standing. The rider can be removed from the horse and they fit back together. The rider by itself is not free standing. It is a cast depicting a Muslim rider. Whose attire suggests to be of respectable social statue, but not necessarily a warrior. The horse is about 16 1/2" long. With the rider. It is about 15" tall. Heavy- weighs about 17 pounds.
