The body of the fender primarily consists of an intricate reticulated greek key pattern repeated over the body of the piece. Fireplace Fender - Antique 1800's Brass and Plate Victorian Ball & Stick
TIME TO MOVE THIS VERY NICE ITEM- NEW LOWER PRICE! A very nice-looking fireplace fender from my family home. Built in 1895. I would guess the fender itself was"original equipment" in the house, especially comparing it with the other fenders that came from same house. But it could be 1890's- 1910's, I am guessing. Only minimally polished in order to clean up. The spindles or uprights are solid brass and are not magnetic. The top two tubular cross pieces are brass plate. The base is not magnetic or is only very slightly. Maybe due to the iron brackets and screws underneath. This piece has a lovely scale to it and only has minimal dings and bumps- no serious dents and no cracks or bad stains. The posts are in great condition and just look super after a minimum of buffing. Details: 39 inches long by 9.5 inches deep by 7 inches ... morehigh. Weight: Nine pounds. Antique Brass Andirons circa 1800-1840
offered here are a rare and handsome pair of early American brass Andirons. They measure 23.5 high. By 19.75 deep, by 11.5 wide. They are made of brass and iron. The hollow brass sections that have seamed construction. The internal rods that hold up the brass sections are made of wrought iron and are square with hand cut threads at the top. They are peened over at the bottom holding the legs and iron firedogs together tightly. The log stops are held in place by a small wrought iron rod that is square with hand cut threads. These iron rods have an interesting spiral effect(see photos) and are peened over on the bottom of the firedog. This type of construction is typical of early 19th century andirons. The brass sections are sand cast in two separate halves and then soldered together. Then they would put these parts on a lathe and turn and ... morepolish them. You can still see the vertical lines Where they were soldered together if you look closely; The feet on the bottom are cast in halves. Soldered together and turned as well. This is a somewhat unusual feature of this design. These Andirons are of excellent quality and workmanship. They would have been produced for a wealthy. Upscale home. They date from somewhere between the 1800's and the1840's. After this period they began to use different construction methods so these are definitely an early pair(see photos) They have a beautiful patina which appears to be very old. It is a bluish green verdigris patina on top of a rich brown colored brass. The places where the verdigris has come off reveal a very deep brown almost black patina on the brass. The blue-green is not completely balanced and uniform. One of the Andirons appears darker in the photo. This is partly due to a shadow in the photo, but is also due to this one has more of the brown patina visible, especially on the upper section and the lower left feet. I believe that you could remove this green verdigris( if you so desired) very easily without disturbing the brown patina underneath. They would have a

It is rare that a complete Arts and Crafts antique fireplace set remains intact and together as this one has! This fine example of the skill and talent of the artisans of that time can be showcased on your hearth today. Included in this substantial handcrafted set is the fireplace screen. Andirons, tool holder with four tools and log holder/carrier with handle. In each piece the heavy yet intricate scrollwork and the artistic twist of the metal is repeated. The squirrels in the andiron design will be enjoying the acorn they hold to their mouths. The blacksmith who forged these squirrels has them perched with their famous bushy tails in full display. Very imaginative! The fireplace screen has handles on either side for ease of moving it. It is well-balanced with the scrolled feet projecting 5-inches forward and the stabilizers projecting 5-inches ... moreback. The screen is a heavy mesh and good condition for its age. There is one tiny disruption in the mesh as shown in the photo. The original blacksmith burnt oil finish still fills in a few openings in the mesh as shown in the photo. The log holder/carrier has scrolled edges and is supported on scrolled feet and the handle is movable. The tool holder is well-balanced and holds the brush. Shovel, poker and tong. A welded repair has been made to the shovel to support the metal which had fatigued over many decades of use. Here we have a pair of antique cast iron and brass andirons. They are complete with back log racks. They are in excellant condition as I have brushed the bottoms and painted them a flat black to protect the iron from rust. The brass tops need a lot more brass polish put on them but they will shine up nicely. The andirons stand about 20 inches tall. The base is 8 inches wide and about 3/4 inch thick. The log rack is 16 inches and are 3/4 by 3/4 thick. I will take these apart so they will mail in a Large flat rate box.
