The knights are heavy brass beautiful work on these with cast iron for the logs to lay across on. They measure 16 inches long for the longs and the knights on the horses stand about 15 inches high in Brass.the longs would be on what looks like a cast iron. I do not know exactly how old. Gorgeous English Brass Fireplace Tools and Fire Dogs Dated 1882
This fabulous set of fireplace tools with matching fire dogs was made February 6. 1882(according to the British Registry marks on each of the tools and on each of the fire dogs) They are neo-classical in form with some Jacobean elements. The handles of the tools are draped classical urns with ring and baluster turnings in the approximate centers of each rod. The tongs have flat strapwork elements below the handle and at the tong ends. The shovel has keyhole shaped blade which is beautifully engraved with a patera, drapery and flowers. The fire dogs have animal legs and paw feet supporting classical urns and drapery. All the tools and the fire dogs are in superb original condition with no damage or notable scratches, etc. All are made of solid brass and appear to have been very lightly used in their 132 year existence. They have been lengthened with an addition piece of metal welded on so they stand for display(see picture 7) Overall the condition is excellent with an age appropriate warm patina. The brass is around a wrought iron core and there is a seam in the middle. The legs are solid brass with well defined spurs. Period Federal Colonial 1700s Antique Brass Double Lemon Top Andirons Fire Dogs
This is a set of genuine 18th or early 19th century Double Lemon Top brass andirons with spurred legs and ball feet. As can can see in the picture one of the andirons is missing it's middle brass"plinth" section. The other Plinth present. However, so perhaps the winning bidder can fabricate a plinth with a mold from the remaining one? Or just use as-is. The andirons are a little over 17" tall. By about 21" deep and weigh about 12 lbs total. The are genuine antiques, with seamed construction and screw-on lemon tops. The double spurred legs are peened to the iron base. The remaining plinth is about 4 5/8" tall and the opening at the top is just over 1 1/8" in diameter. The set is totally unpolished and has a really old verdigris-surface. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 HTF Antique Andirons N. Johnson Boston circa 1820. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Beautiful Unique Cast Brass and Iron Andirons stamped N. Johnson Boston. The 1823 Boston Directory lists Nathaniel Johnson as a coppersmith at 11 Marshal Street which was near the Hay Market. Not far from Nathaniel Hall. The andirons have no screws or bolts. Crafted completely by a black smith with a style indicative of the Charlestown, Massachusetts forges circa 1820's. We do not have any individual provenience on these Andirons. But there is a listing of similar andirons at the Old Sturbridge Village Museum in Massachusetts where they attribute the andirons to"Nathaniel Johnson, Boston, Massachusetts. Nathaniel Johnson is listed as a coppersmith in Boston Directories from 1816-1823. This is 1 of 2 pairs of ... morelabeled Johnson andirons known at time of acquisition. Nathaniel is listed as a jeweler in the 1825 directory which indicates he moved in a different direction in his career and why there are not very many andirons with his name on it. The other pair is listed in the inventory of the Winterthur Museum in Delaware. If you look closely at the last picture you can see the fine cast line in the brass. The andirons were braised together by a talented craftsman. The Andirons weigh approximately 6 ½# a piece. It wasn’t until after the 1830’s that forges had the technology to cast hollow brass. Condition: Brass is in good shape with numerous fleabite nicks as would be expected in an antique that has been used for over a hundred of years. The brass is polished but there are some spots that could use additional polishing. Please look at the photos closely. Note that one of the dog legs or log holders has been repaired by a blacksmith some time in the past. The dog legs have light rust and pitting but are still strong and usable. Antique Hand Forged Bronze/Brass Fireplace Andirons Fire Dogs, Early 1800s
Beautiful& Rare Antique Bronze Andirons. Handmade and Forged together. Dating around early 1800s. Pieces are molded then forged to shape& together. Measuring about 17 1/2" tall, 8 1/2" wide at base, 15 1/2" front to back. Fronts are solid bronze and Log bars are iron. Has small makers defect, where the iron back bar attaches to bronze bass, one is attached under and other is attached over(has no effect to structure& can not be seen from front) Since they are hand forged together at that spot, this small defect can not be fixed. They also might have had a small bronze cover over top front area of the iron bar, which would have bin forged on, depending on Maker. Has no Maker ID Marks. Unsure of origin and exact age. PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION Up for auction is a pair of Antique Fireplace Andirons. I believe these are made of brass and the rods on the backs are made of cast iron. These do show definite signs of wear with nicks. Scratches, rust and discolored spots as expected. I could not find any makers name, but I did find the numbers 1919 which may be the date on the underside of the back rods. These measure approx. 18"H x 8 1/4" across at widest point x 18 1/2" D from front to end of back rod piece. One of the back rods is a little loose and moves back and forth-the bolt may just need to be tightened, not sure. These are very dusty and dirty and will need cleaned when received. ANTIQUE VINTAGE BRASS HOOF IRON HORSE EQUINE HEAD ANDIRON FIRE DOGS
Up for auction is a set of antique/vintage cast iron and brass fireplace andirons. These stand 17.5" tall and the cast iron brackets extend to 22" They weigh close to 20 pounds each. I will most likely ship these in 2 boxes. There is some scratching to the brass and some small areas of black paint loss to the horse heads, which can be easily touched up. The lock lever on one of the chains is broken. I don't see any marks on these, other than some letters and numbers on the brackets, which are stamped and difficult to make out.
