This is a nice Victorian era keystone or medallion from a fireplace mantel with a grape design along with a bellflower at the bottom. I believe it is made of slate or bluestone and measures 1" x 8 3/4" wide x 9" high. There is a chip on the backside at the bottom as you can see in the pictures and some paint residue. Great Antique 19th C Brass & Wrought Iron Lyre Form Victorian Andirons
A striking pair of wrought iron and brass andirons from the Victorian era in good. Undamaged condition. They show natural blackening from the fireplace and also some residue on the backside of the brass lyre tops most likely from someone trying to polish the brass at one time. The height of each is 21.25" and the dimensions of the lyre form are 5 5/8 inches by 8.75 inches. The length of the iron supports is 17.5 inches from front to back. An antique salvaged piano was the source for this great mantel shelf. Beautiful half-round columns on either side. The finish is a rich mahogany. Excellent condition. Sturdy and straight. This shelf will stand on its own. But hangers could easily be attached to the back for security. Perfect to place on an existing mantel or it could serve as a mantel itself if placed over a fireplace. This is the piece taken from around the front board of piano. Dolphins / dragons Andirons Bradley and Hubbard 14" solid bronze / brass
Here are a pair. of solid bronze/brass dolphins cast for making a pair of ANDIRON's for a fire place. We are more inclined to believe they are bronze being they never have corroded after hanging on our bathroom wall for over 35 years. To clarify them. The picture to the far right are a pair of"cast iron" andiron's that sold on ebay last week for around $413 delivered. These two that we have after close examination are the exact same casting only in bronze/brass without the brackets to put the legs on them that go out the back to hold the logs in your fireplace. We bought these over 35 years ago to use them as decorative pieces to hang in our bathroom as you see not knowing just what they were for. Listed is a nice set of antique cast iron andirons made by the Tenn. Chrome Plate Co. in Nashville. The cats have marble eyes and are 16 inches tall and 15 inches long with the rails. The bases are approx. 7 inches wide and each one weighs approx 8 lbs. One of the cats has a couple of small holes in it as shown in the pictures. The other cat has a crack on the base that has had a repair done on it also. All items listed are from my grandfather's estate. I am not an expert on any of the items listed. With black pinstriping around all three screens, and the legs. The legs are arched, ending in brass caps with brass casters. The center support is ring turned with dark stained rings, and has an inlaid diamond at the center. The three 21" wide screens extend right, left, and up to create a large area of protection from the heat of a fireplace. You are bidding on a really attractive pair of antique fireplace andirons by Bradley& Hubbard. Bradley& Hubbard was in business from 1852-1940. Though I am not exactly sure how old these are, they do seem to be done in the Arts& Crafts style. As you can see, they are marked B&H 9570, so that might help with the dating. What I do know is that these cast iron andirons have a really beautiful form, over and above their functionality. They measure approximately 12 3/4" high by 15 3/8" deep. There was a time when even the humblest objects were produced with beautiful. Decorative details, as this wonderful, cast iron fireplace grate illustrates. The large back plate is adorned with a deep relief casting, the charming and whimsical image of a grinning, winking moon face set in a field of six-pointed stars. Think of it as a delightful piece of jewelry for your hearth. Condition is rustic. Yet, grand. Part of the fire-bed swivels and lifts out to help with ash removal. The back plate also lifts out. Measures 19 3/4" across the front at its widest point, 14" tall at its tallest point, and 10" deep. This piece was found in New England. The first region of the US to be transformed by the Industrial Revolution in the 19th C, and I believe it originated there in one of the early foundries. Wonderful arts and crafts period andirons to dress up your fireplace. You can never lose with these as they only increase in value as there are less and less American Craftsmen to make them. Think about it for a minute. how many blacksmiths do you know? How many did you know in your lifetime? These are probably 100 years old. They are pre owned and used. And they have rust present. These bird heads remind me of Bradley and Hubbard products. If I find reliable documentation I will add this. I am still looking, I know they made griffons. Birds? don't know. These have welds. That tells me that they are not from say 1850. Was thrilled to get these as they are not the mundane simple type. These are expensive to ship as the dimensions are charged for as well as the weight. Some wear to mitered edges and light crazing to the tile as one would expect to find on a well used and cared for item like this. We can find no maker marks as the tiles are affixed to a cement form. This tile fender is quite substantial and weighs 11.55 lbs. It measures 19" from end to end. The fascia is 11.5" wide and the fender sits 3.5" high.
