The deer heads and base are solid brass and were"antique" finished when I bought them. They can be polished of course but patina gives metal a heritage appearance so I never did. Antique Federal Period Brass Andirons, C. 1810, Chippendale Style, Full Seams
This is a pair of late 18th to early 19th C. Chippendale style andirons in brass with iron returns. Appropriate to their age. They are have full-seams, hand peened rivets, and a very old patina. They are 15.5"H, 8.25"W, and 16.75"D. There is a repair near the base of one upright, another repair at the base of the other, and some solder is visible. There is slight corrosion to the very top of one andiron, and there are a few small gaps in the seams of the andirons' sections. However, they are sturdy and appropriate for use. This is an early 20th C. pair of andirons. Tools, stand, and matching fender in the Arts& Crafts style. They are hand forged iron with shield, scroll, knife blade, and faceted ball motifs. Handwork is visible on every surface. I cannot attribute the set, and I can find no maker's mark. They do depict the medieval Arts and Crafts style, and quality, of the works of Arden and the Rose Valley Association, during that time period. If I had a fireplace in my home, these would not be for sale. This set is meant for a larger fireplace. So please check the measurements. The fender is 51.5"W, 10.5"H, and 12.75"D. The andirons are 20.5"H, 11.5"W, 21.5"D(13 lbs. each) The stand is 33.5"H, 12.5"W, and 8.25"D. The poker is 30.5"L, and the shovel is 28"L. There are areas where the original ... moreblack finish is missing and there are some specs of white paint. The andiron returns, and the remaining finish on the fender, indicate long term appropriate use in a fire place, but they are both strong and entirely usable. The finish could be restored if desired, and there are no repairs needed. We vacuumed the set with a brush attachment, but we careful to preserve the patina. Up for auction is a pair of antique Hessian Soldier andirons. The figures are cast iron and stand 16" tall. The supports are 16" long. They retain nearly all of their original paint. I have not cleaned these in any way other than dusting them. I think the colors would really pop with a good cleaning. I don't see a maker or a foundry mark on them. These are very heavy. FINE ANTIQUE WALNUT VICTORIAN ROCOCO CRESTED MANTELTOP? FROM SCHREWBURY MUSEUM SALE#53 size: 102" w x 54.50" h x 16" deep. This walnut or oak victorian rococo architectual crested mantel( was purchased from the Schrewsbury Museum when they closed down. This was stored in their carriage house. The piece is triangular in shape. The panel depicts a nicely carved fancy coat-of-arms crest with scrolls and vine design. The upper section has dentil molding while the lower section have a fancy carved molded base. This piece could very well have an historical connection. Possibly it may have been part of a huge mantel. Would be a definate conversation piece for you renovated victorian mansion. Help yourself here. Please ask questions before bidding. Great find for a Mid Century Modern enthusiast. Vintage 1950's to 1960's low Cast Iron metal If I was using this piece. I would use it for a magazine or newpaper rack. However, it is so low, that I think it was originally a Mid Century Modern log holder/ rack for the fireplace. I believe that the top portion would hold the logs/ wood and that the lower section would hold newspaper for tinder needed to start the fire. What a gorgeous fireplace piece. Old tin with tole painted roses coal scuttle could be used for cleaning ashes from your fireplace. This piece measures approx 14.5" high x 11x15" Not including the extra for the shovel/scoop. Nice brass and wood shovel scoop is placed in pocket in back. Door opens on scuttle. The inner tray removes to clean using the 2 side handles. There is some paint loss as shown as expected from this early victorian piece. But it is an overall nice art painting of roses. The pieces of wood on the sides are attached, but not original to the mantle I would say. Possibly cut to fit another fireplace, and stained to match. These 2 matching antique cast iron fireplace surrounds are about 31" x 27 1/2" and are 18 1/4" from the inside opening dimension. They can be sold separately or together. These surrounds along with a few other architectural pieces came from our uncle's house in Steubenville. Ohio after he passed away. They had to demolish the house, so I rescued a few pieces before they were destroyed forever. I have the origianl mortgage deed from the house where it shows great grandparents bought the house from relatives in 1927. Up for auction is a pair of cast iron Antique handmade. Blacksmith made Andirons, they were found in the basement of an old Vermont farmhouse, they are probably early 1800's. They are 18 inches long, 16 inches high and 9.5 inches wide.They show character, a little rust, with nice geometry- Thank you for looking.
