Possibly European, or if American made at least in the European style& tradition. Dating to the 1870's-90's, in gothic or midevial or renaissance revival style. Part of the aesthetic movement. Made of stamped brass sheeting nailed over molid wood, with a slanted top featuring relief panels depicting scenes of midevial or renaissance characters. Each side is different and individually hand crafted. Reproductions would have the same scene repeating. Each side of the box tells a different part of a story. Came from an old New York City hotel. 20 1/2" tall at highest point 22 1/2" long 15 3/4" wide Top has group of people in woods by pond. Beautiful Wooden Delft Ceramic Fireplace Screen early 1900s
For sale we have a beautiful fireplace screen. Looks to be either mahogany or walnut with a beautiful wood tone. The inlay is an extremely nice Delft tile, a rendition of a painting by Gerard Dou entitled the Violinist in the Window. It's dated 1665, which is when the actual painting was painted. This is an early 20th century rendition of that painting. Has a little damage to the end of one foot, but otherwise is in very good shape. Just needs a little TLC. One of the most beautiful and original fireplace screens I've ever seen. Thanks for looking.
