ASOLUTELY STUNNING AND EXCEPTIONALLY NICE CONDITION! We are pleased to offer this antique to vintage. Solid, carved wood fireplace screen frame. The frame is masterfully carved. The designs are not glued pieces, they are carved into the frame. The frame has 7sections. The top, two side frame pieces, and the bottom frame piece. There are also two side attachements with a bottom cross piece. Additionally, there are 4 arched feet. The frame featues exceptionally ornate and intricately carved wood. The top of the frame has very detailed leave and acorn carved design. This"headpiece" has an ornate arched lower section which is incised in a diamond design. Inside the diamonds are notches which make up 4 petaled flowers. A faux twist rope pattern is carved on the border. This topper is one piece of wood and attaches to the side frames ... moreat the upper corners(see photo12) The side frames are also incised/carved with overlapping leaves as well as the diamond cross hatched pattern. They are connected to side columns with dowls(there are no nail or screw holes present) The side columns feature turned wood with a gorgeous. Flower accent. The side columns continue to the ornate feet of the screen. The feet extend the same in the front and the back. They feature carved wood leaves with a bottom, carved flower. The feet are connected with a cross frame piece that is carved in an egg and dart design. The frame is exquisite. It is all carved with only 4 overlay pieces. These pieces are located at each corner. They are carved shells and are a much lighter colored wood. I am not exactly certain as to the type of wood. It is finished in a medium to darker brown stain. The four shell overlays are a golden colored wood. The frame is in extremely nice condition with very few dings or scratches. It has been beautifully preserved. Victorian-era Cast Iron FIREPLACE COVER& FRAME Art Nouveau maiden design. So much intricate detail! Purchased at a western Iowa estate sale. This fireplace cover& frame could enhance an existing fireplace, be part of a current fireplace restoration or actually stand alone as a work of art! I'm guessing it's from the 1890's into the first decade of the 20th century. No markings that I can see. First of all. Let's talk about the frame. It has a gorgeous design of deeply stamped leaves and berries. Frame measurements: 24 3/8" wide x 30 1/4" high x 1 7/8" wide. No damage to report. The cover itself is very detailed and resembles a Victorian rug. Outer design you can see tassels and a woven design. Overlaid on that is a portrait of a maiden or nymph sitting against a backdrop of lush greenery(possibly by ... morewater) Measurements on this are 20 3/8" wide x 28 1/2" high. Visible on the top edge(photo 4) is an area that looks faded compared to the rest of the cover. My husband thinks that this could be from years of being on an iron pile outside. With this faded part submerged in soil. This goes all the way across the top and is about 1 1/2" high. On the backside, my husband points out a crack that is about 5" long(photo 6) between his index& little finger. This translates to the spot next to the maiden in the"rug" area, on the front. Honestly, I couldn't get it to photograph it from the front because the design is so intricate. Cover and frame were cleaned with a wire brush. More could be done if you wish. A flat black paint finish is a possibility. Because this is a very heavy item. It will have to go UPS. I am guessing a shipping price of $50. Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Surround-Frame-Cover-Ornate Victorian w/Grates
The first thing I would like to point out about this surround is that it does not have a can of krylon sprayed on it to cover it's imperfections. I've restored enough antique cars to know. It has been sandblasted and coated with a good laquer based paint. When you have done this, you know it when you see and feel it. I could almost say it's powder coated but I'm not positive. It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between those 2 finishes. If you buy it, you will agree, it's not been sprayed with a can of krylon to flake off in a short period of time, it's been restored the right way and sandblasting old cast iron or steel is the only way to do it properly so it will last. It's not highly decorative, quiet simply ornate designs like a fan in the 2 upper corners. The ears for mounting the piece are still ... moreon it, all 4 of them. The only flaw I see is in the grate, you can see that it had definitely been used, the bottom part of the grates has been hot enough to break off some of those grates. If your going to use it, that can be repaired. This one was probably restored just to be used for looks and it looks great. The outside frame measures 27 1/4" tall and 23" wide. The opening is 24" at the center height and 16" wide. Very standard measurements for a surround, nothing hard to match for a standard fireplace opening. This surround is ready to be mounted.
