It can be repaired for alot less than that. You can see where someione attemted to repair it. Probably some farmer who didn't have the right equipment to do it. If you will notice. There are several places for this cover to be bolted. If you have a frame that will fit it, you will probably never even notice the crack. Because of the 2 bolts that hold that bottom piece on, it can't fall off. If I was going to use this, I would pick me up a tube of jb weld or sonic weld and fill the crack. That stuff dries hard as a rock. Any welding shop can fix this for you if you don't like that method and you have a beautiful antique cover. These special fitted ones are very rare and hard to come by. If you don't have the frame, any shop can make one and you still won't have as much in it as it would cost you without that crack. It measures 24" wide and 18 1/4" high. There's really no sense in me giving all the measurements for the holes, you'll know if you have the frame and if you don't then whoever makes one will have the cover to go by. This cover could be as old as 1900 or up thru the 30's. I wouldn't think it would be any newer than that. Let me know if you have any questions. We are pleased to offer this very nice. Antique to older vintage, fireplace fireback with stand. This wonderful, Art Deco designed piece features heavy cast iron construction. There are two large ancient Greek or Roman warriors, both on horses/steeds, and in apparent battle. The scene is completed with wisps of textural clouds above. All of the intricate designs are done in a very dimensional, repousse, fashion. The top is also finished to look like clouds so the screen is quite unique with the top not being uniform on each side. The finish is black with silver highlights throughout. It is very heavy and is approximately 1/2" thick. The stand features two separate pieces and is not fixed to the screen. The fireplace has a very textured surface which is gilded and a coppery gold in color. The insert grate has columnal design which is reminiscent of the Greek Parthenon or Roman Pantheon. The removable summer cover door has a knob on each side. This unit is in very good condition with minimal evidence of age. This mantel is circa 1880's. The summer cover and surround are cast iron with minor rust. It could be sandblasted and painted to your liking. The mantel and keystone are marbleized slate. They also can be stripped and painted. There are no noticeable dings.Dents or cracks on either the mantel or the cover. The paint on the mantel is flaking due to age. I have one pic of the mantel and cover before it was removed from the house. Here we have a beautiful antique cast iron three piece fireplace summer cover. This piece is very ornate and in excellent condition showing no damage at all. Removed from one of the fireplaces in a large 1860's home in Holly Michigan's historic district. There are three pieces to this set. There is a surround.A center cover for the firebox and a lower portion that goes under the center firebox cover, it has a sliding vent that still works as it always has. They found it while antique hunting or it possibly came from an old home that was torn down in Old Town Alexandria. It probably dates to the 1800's. It has actually been installed in my parents home to cover a fireplace opening and vent a wood stove through it- hence the 6" opening in the cover(which could be covered with something ornate for decorative purposes) Of course you could replace this cover with a more ornate one- I see the right size on ebay regularly. Antique. Circa 1890's, ornate cast iron summer cover surround. The surround measures about 24 1/2" wide, 20 1/8" wide inside x 30" tall, 25" tall inside x 3/4" thickness on side edges. The rear is marked, 422" and"20" The back has various mounting hardware as pictured. The surround has a black protruding hood with floral designs and a center fleur de lis. The top gold painted areas have designs and flowers. Each gold side part has a torch with flames and leaves on the side. The paint is a recreation of the original colors. During cleaning and removal of top layers of added paint there was enough of the original paint remaining for me determine the color. After paint restoration, the front and back surfaces were top coated with a clear protective varnish. Very nice and detailed piece with the original ... more19th century appearance. Cast iron Victorian FIREPLACE COVER & FRAME. Nouveau maiden design, very nice!
Victorian-era Cast Iron FIREPLACE COVER& FRAME Art Nouveau maiden design. So much intricate detail! Purchased at a western Iowa estate sale. This fireplace cover& frame could enhance an existing fireplace, be part of a current fireplace restoration or actually stand alone as a work of art! I'm guessing it's from the 1890's into the first decade of the 20th century. No markings that I can see. First of all. Let's talk about the frame. It has a gorgeous design of deeply stamped leaves and berries. Frame measurements: 24 3/8" wide x 30 1/4" high x 1 7/8" wide. No damage to report. The cover itself is very detailed and resembles a Victorian rug. Outer design you can see tassels and a woven design. Overlaid on that is a portrait of a maiden or nymph sitting against a backdrop of lush greenery(possibly by ... morewater) Measurements on this are 20 3/8" wide x 28 1/2" high. Visible on the top edge(photo 4) is an area that looks faded compared to the rest of the cover. My husband thinks that this could be from years of being on an iron pile outside. With this faded part submerged in soil. This goes all the way across the top and is about 1 1/2" high. On the backside, my husband points out a crack that is about 5" long(photo 6) between his index& little finger. This translates to the spot next to the maiden in the"rug" area, on the front. Honestly, I couldn't get it to photograph it from the front because the design is so intricate. Cover and frame were cleaned with a wire brush. More could be done if you wish. A flat black paint finish is a possibility. Because this is a very heavy item. It will have to go UPS. I am guessing a shipping price of $50. Please do not pay immediately at auction end because I will have to use your zip to get an accurate shipping figure. Could be more or less than $50. Antique rustic cast iron fireplace summer cover insert. Pictures an Elk/deer family of three in a"woodsy" setting with sun shining in background. Removed from barn after many years of storage. Hence the heavy rusting. Will need cleaning and TLC beautification. There is a thin. Tight crack on the bottom edge running from the bottom knob down. This is shown close up in the last photo. You can zoom in to get an even closer look. The bottom knob will need to be tightly secured; very loose and will come off pretty easily. Insert measures 20" wide and 25 1/4" tall. Original. Heavy, antique, salvaged plaque. Solid cast iron construction with great patina. Very slight copper tone remaining here and there. Oval recessed panel has nice bell flower and beaded trim. Scene shows a gentleman with a hat and water jug playing a horn. There is a dog and tree in the background. Classical woman is kneeling and may be holding a sheep. Outside the oval are elaborate, acanthus designs on a textured background. This is guaranteed to be a Victorian antique and not a reproduction. Just a glorious architectural piece of art!
