They are definitely old and resemble andirons/ firedogs from the period of the Arts& Crafts movement. They each measure 32.5 inches in height x 24 inches in length and 15 inches across the base. There is no signature or hallmark on the andirons. It is possible these are older than the Arts& Crafts movement because of the possett cups. Possett was a popular medicinal drink from the medieval period to the 19th century. The andirons are in excellent condition and quite heavy. The detailing of the Screen is almost a Gothic look with the Hand Hammered edges and designs on the corners. These are beautiful old fire dog that are very rare and hard to find. I recently bought it from an Estate. The knights are heavy brass beautiful work on these with cast iron for the logs to lay across on. They measure 16 inches long for the longs and the knights on the horses stand about 15 inches high in Brass.the longs would be on what looks like a cast iron. I do not know exactly how old. The pair have a nautical theme and feature a large, Spanish galleon or clipper ship as their focal point. This exceptional and exquisite pair are a combination of iron and bronze/brass. The top section of the andirions are iron and feature the large ship medallion inside the outer frame. A large, detailed leaf is the top finial. The center columns are a barley twist design in an enameled/oiled type finish. They are bronze or brass as a magnet will not adhere to this section. Cahill. Antique andirons. This auction is for a beautiful pair of Arts and Craft era. Cast iron andirons/firedogs. They were manufactured by the Cahill Iron works Co. of Chattanooga, TN sometime in the 1920's. These beauties measure approx. 18.5" tall- 9.75" across and 19' deep. They are in great condition. There is surface rust present. This is shown in the photo's. Also in pic#10 please note where the hole where the rust has gone through. This is on the middle leg of the back bracket, not the andiron itself. These are true antique Arts and Crafts era fireplace andirons! They would make a lovely addition to your home! This listing is for a pair of Victorian Gothic Andirons Fire-Dogs. They are in original condition. These are double sided. 4 pieces total.front facing decorative pieces and the pieces that function to hold the logs. The top has a round scallop design with"V" fan design in center and curls/flourishes. IThere is ribbed feathering around the points on the scallops and in the ring above the fan. Beneath this top is a spiral twist that lands on a piece with double dragon heads. Further down there is a pod footed piece with flourishes and possible"scales" pattern. On the backside of this piece there are two metal protrusions a peg and one is threaded like a screw. These protrusions fit into the base pieces that hold the logs. Refer to photos of andiron standing. There are no makers marks. Each"pair" of andiron.that ... moreis andiron with functional iron weighs 11 pounds and 8 ounces. They are 19" in height. 7 1/2 inches in width at the foot and 5 1/4 inches width at the top. These andirons are in original condition. Some original paint remains on the forward facing side. There are no chips. Nicks or cracks in these pieces. No restoration. The pieces that hold the wood show signs of fire use. There is some scattered rust on the pieces. The pieces that hold the logs slide onto a peg and screw on the back of the andirons. The screws may have been shortened at some point as they are about 1/4" in length. The pieces are sturdy when logs are placed on them providing stablility with weight. These have not been cleaned by this seller with the exception of using a dry brush to clean off some dust to expose detail. We ship within 24 hours of payment clearing. This is a great set of antique owl cast iron firedog/andiron guards. The owls are circa late 1800's and have the amber marble eyes which glow. This listing is for the owl guards only which are very rare. The actual andirons(horizontal bar for the logs) can be attached. The“bolts” are missing, but easily replaced, please examine photos closely. Each owl is 13" tall x 8" wide. Please consider pictures as part of description.
