These Tongs are in amazing condition for the age. The tongs are hinged. And only one side moves. There is a hand hammered pin in the cast top piece that holds the hinge together. You can also see the hammer marks on the bends just beside the hinge. The tongs measure 23 inches tall and they're 3 inches wide at the hinge. The tongs were painted at some point and there is significant paint loss. No Rust though. Excellent Rare example here. This rare late 19th Century Brass Plated Interior Residential Ornamental Cast Iron Summer Fireplace Cover is in very good condition for its age and would make an excellent addition to any formal or rustic decor. It depicts a woman lying against a tree limb surrounded by intricate foliage and birds in a fairly deep relief. The cover has a height of 26.5 inches and a width of 20 inches. Here is a set of antique cast iron George Washington andirons. Complete with log holders. The front figural piece is 20 inches tall, and 9.25 inches wide at the base. Thickness varies from 1 1/8" at the base to 1/2" at the top. The log supports attach to the front uprights by sliding into a bracket; they extend 17.5 inches to the rear. There is some erosion of the brackets so that the log supports do not fit tightly and will need a shim if they are put to use in a fireplace. I have carefully cleaned off surface rust and dirt on the uprights(wire brushed) There was no evidence of any former paint. The set has no cracks or breakage. There are small holes in the area below the back bracket which may have been for pins to anchor the log supports. This is definitely a very old set judging from the wear and patina. Outstanding 19th century antique solid bronze Revolutionary War Hessian soldier fireplace andirons in excellent condition. Original patina with forged iron support legs. These measure 20" tall x 9" wide at the feet and weigh over 40 pounds. The bronze Soldiers are up to 2" thick at the widest point. Support legs are 18" long and have some expected and customary extremely light surface rust. One leg has an ever so slight twist from heat mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. Early Antique Iron Fireplace Screen This iron piece is from an old stone house that was built in the 1800s. I thought it was an iron screen that would go in the back of the fireplace to reflect the heat outward. But the owner thought it was used to cover the fireplace opening during the night to keep the house warm and keep the fire from coming out of the fireplace opening. It is made of three pieces of heavy iron. Has an embossed fleur de lis pattern and raised trim. there are hinges that hook into the other pieces. Once hooked together, the sides of the screen can be turned so the piece stays upright. In good antique condition, solid and sturdy, very nice early piece. The larger. Here we have a beautiful antique cast iron three piece fireplace summer cover. This piece is very ornate and in excellent condition showing no damage at all. Removed from one of the fireplaces in a large 1860's home in Holly Michigan's historic district. There are three pieces to this set. There is a surround.A center cover for the firebox and a lower portion that goes under the center firebox cover, it has a sliding vent that still works as it always has. The overall measurements are: 30 1/2" high by 24 9/16" wide. the firebox cover area is 20 3/4" high by 19 3/4" wide. This item is available for pick up or can be shipped. Samuel Yellin style fireplace fire place tools are wonderful. Three tools and the dog head holder are the same style. The broom. Shovel and tongs all have etched designs on the handle. The doghead holder has wonderful detail that my photos don't show well. The detail is on the head and down the mail rod/body of the dog head. The four feet are made to look like feet. The dog's tongue sticks out of his open mouth and does not lay on the bottom of his mouth. There is a poker that was purchased with this set, but does not have the etched design. It is a twisted iron design. The total weight of these tools is approximately 30 lbs. I don't know what metal these tools are. They might be brass but are definitely iron. PAIR OF ANTIQUE WROUGHT IRON ANDIRONS O LOOP DESIGN This clean pair of andirons dates to the mid to late nineteenth century. They were found in an estate near Harpers Ferry. West Virginia. They are hand forged and thus not identical in size or shape. The larger of the two measures 12-3/4" tall x 8-3/4" wide at the feet with a 12-3/4" long log rest. This folk art piece combines Griffin or Dragon Andirons with a fireplace grate and decorative front grate piece.
