The mantel has an exquisite Victorian style design. Each leg has a round. Tapered, half-fluted column with round base and ornate capital. Notice the carved acanthus leaves on the capitals, and their reeded sides-what great accents! The body has lovely acanthus and volute motif in the center sitting atop a stepped ledge with dental molding. The crown molding, directly below the shelf also has steps and dental detail. Restoration: At the point of salvage. The mantel was covered under several layers of paint, and a thick layer of stain and varnish. Penn Antique Restoration. 56"x81" Antique Restored Carved Victorian Oak Fireplace Mantel Gorgeous. Antique, fireplace mantel salvaged from an old plantation home in Central Georgia. It is made entirely of red oak(no veneer) and dates back to the 1880's. The lower half has a fairly straightforward design with a few accents including a turned. Tapered column on each leg; a carved starburst motif above each column; and chamfered edges on both sides of each leg. The upper half has 4 shelves(2 long and 2 short) a recessed panel in the center contoured with egg and dart molding and an oval opening for a mirror; 2 turned. Tapered columns with a carved plinth block in the middle; and a lovely crown with curved ends. Glass: The original mirror had very little silvering left. So we didn't include it. The mantel will need a new mirror(flat ... moreor beveled) which we could order and install for you. If you would like a bigger mirror, we could remove the whole panel(the area in between the ornate molding) and install a rectangular mirror. The mantel was covered under many layers of paint, and some parts were broken or missing(mostly decorative appliqués) We acquired the mantel in pieces. This facilitated the stripping process. But made putting it back together very difficult. We reassembled the mantel using modern glue, nails, and drywall screws. We also added hardwood stiffeners to the back of the mantel. Now, it's stronger and sturdier than ever! Condition: Considering that the mantel is about 130 years old. It's in amazing condition! You will find the typical cosmetic blemishes: nicks, scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes. However, to the antique enthusiast, those are character marks not flaws. There are no structural threats(i.e. breaks, cracks, rotting, etc. Finishing: All this beauty needs now is a nice stain and/or finish. We've finished many mantels before(see last 5 photos)

It would make a fantastic fireplace mantel, window valance, pediment, etc. This is solid walnut wood with inlay veneer and exceptional, carved accents. There are 2 large corbels with deeply curved and carved side profiles. Each has a carved North Wind or Devil face with fantastic detailing such as acanthus leaves that surround the faces. The end sections of the unit feature squared columns with incised diamond pattern. Very nice carved acanthus scrolls support each column and provide nice end accents. The inlay wood sections are raised panels. The lower section retains the finish base cap molding trim which is substantial in size. The back of the unit is in original condition with the original ... morenails/screws in place. The top has 3 peg holes where a shelf had once been attached. The unit is in very good, antique condition. There are a few, very minor scuffs which are not distracting and can be resolved. There is one split down the side that will need to be filled but it has not affected the structural integrity of the unit(see picture 5) This is simply exceptional and beautiful! The unit measures 51" long. 10.5" tall and extends 9.5" from the wall at the corbel section. The corbels are 10.5" tall. They are 2.25" wide at the top sections and 3.75" wide at the bottom with the trim included. They are 8.75" deep(front to back) at the face sections. You are seeing what I think are the best sides to be used as top and front. And you will see this left ... moreend is notched and the right end is flat. The photo above shows the wood wet. Of course the photo props. The bottles etc, do not come with the auction. There are also several drilled holes that I am sure were made with a hand auger. You can add some more if you like. and sometimes wooden pegs and/or metal hooks are great for looks. And to hang x-mas stockings, candle pine. or what have you. The picture below shows the bottom side of the mantle. Which exhibits more worm holes but is quite hard and sound. You may like the look of the ends. But upon request, I can cut a few inches off of each to make them more uniform. I can give it an antiqued worn look and effect, which I am experienced with. The photo above and two below shows the piece slightly wet. Which is to show what it may look like when the buyer treats it with linseed oil, tung oil, or even a clear polyurethane hard-shell coat. A beautiful Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel with bevel edged Mirror. Circa 1880. We are pleased to present this fabulous antique Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel for your consideration. In the Arts& Crafts/ Mission style. The Mantel features a large beveled edge mirror above the shelf, along with a variety of decorative touches including attractive striping of the wood grain on the two vertical columns. The Mantel has overall dimensions of 82 inches high. 60-1/2 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. We estimate the weight at 150 pounds- two people can move it with effort, although its large size makes it somewhat torquey to handle. The mirror measures 17-1/2 inches high by 29-3/8 inches wide. The shelf is 44 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches deep. At the front. The opening for the fireplace is 39 inches high by 41-1/2 inches wide. At the back ... moreedge, the opening is 50 inches wide. Picture 5 shows where the"front" and"back" measurements were taken. Measuring from the wall, to the back edge of the"front" point, the depth is 5-1/4 inches. Faults are few and minor with this antique fixture. The silvering on the mirror shows only minor deterioration. With a few tiny black spots, and some larger areas of crazing where it still reflects. There are a few small burn marks(see pictures 3 and 4) but they only affect the surface finish. There is one noticeable bump to the front edge of the shelf(seen in picture 10) but it is not very large. Other than these issues, the Mantel is in fine shape. We rate the overall condition as very good. This is a gorgeous Arts& Crafts/ Mission style Oak Mantel. It would make a wonderful decorative piece for your remodeling project! This is stripped down of its previous paint. So you can stain it. Paint it or leave it. It is also missing the top shelf, so you can add a slab of wood, marble, granite, whatever you like. It measures 46 inches tall, 39.5 inches across and is 8.5 inches deep. There is minimal damage, except usage marks over the years, but no real damage. And it is very sturdy and strong still. A really nice ornate antique wood fireplace mantel with original beveled mirrors. 2 on each side and 1 in the middle. I was told it is hardwood. I do not know. But believe so. I originally thought it was walnut, but the dark color could be a stain. Shelf is 5' wide and opening is 43" Even if you don't have a fireplace, neat to just add to a wall. Bought this 20 years ago from a Bridgeport. Ct Estate. We are moving and sadly this can not come with us. We have it in our bedroom and I put a fake fireplace in it with those cans you light to give it a real fireplace effect. We hang ou christmas stocking and have had many a display on the large mantel. The piece is 7ft high, approx 6'7" wide at its widest point which is the mantel- the opening is 3'5" high and 3'6" long. We have it sitting on a nice piece of bluestone which is 6'6" If you want the faux fireplace we will throw it in for free. If you want the stone base, please add on an additional $45. This auction is for the turn of the century mantel only. It is in great shape, just missing a top right molding piece- refer to pictures. Up for auction is an amazing and beautiful fireplace mantel that I salvaged from a 100 year old home located in a Northshore suburb of Chicago that was razed around 10 year ago. We salvaged a number of items. With this being one of the pieces. We completed the restoration of our home built in 1927 and this was initially planned for the Master Bedroom. We opted for a stone mantel salvaged from a Cleveland A&C, as our ceiling height was an issue. I am listing at the lowest price I am willing to sell, so I am hoping to find a buyer who shares the same passion for reuse and restoration of craftsmen build pieces. I sold the faience tiles that were part of this mantel a few years ago, however companies like Motawi Tileworks sell wonderful replacements that would fit perfectly. But it is very close if not perfect) I've included a photo of most dimensions that will help you decide if this will fit. Most likely this will be for a new build or renovation, as it was custom built for the original house. There are two side panels, as the mantel stuck 11" out from the wall, which can be used or not(flush with the wall) The mantel is dismantled and I have all of the trim pieces, so it is ready to be installed.I highly recommend a professional carpenter.
